DaimlerChrysler announced 2 Camp Jeeps - one in the east and one in the west...
Camp Jeep®, one of the nation's largest and best-attended ownership gatherings, expands to two locations and dates next year, and will be open to not only Jeep owners but to the general public for the first time in the event's nine-year history. New dates and locations will be announced to consumers on the Jeep.com website and at 1-800-789-JEEP starting December 11. Camp Jeep 2003 will be held at the Oak Ridge Estate in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Nelson County, Va., Thursday, June 26 - Saturday, June 28. Camp Jeep California will be held at Gardner Ranch in the Santa Inez Mountains north of Santa Barbara, Calif., Thursday, August 14 - Saturday, August 16. "Camp Jeep is, arguably, one of the world's greatest owner celebrations. It's something that only Jeep would do," said Jeff Bell, Vice President-Jeep Division, DaimlerChrysler Corporation. "Families come from all over the world to celebrate the Jeep spirit and what it stands for. It's only natural to make Camp Jeep available to both coasts and give people more of what they love about Jeep." For the first time, Camp Jeep will open its doors to the public on the Saturday of each event at both locations. "People really have to see Camp Jeep and experience it for themselves to believe it," said Bell. "The pride our owners have for their vehicles and the fun they have is amazing. It begins with their passion for the outdoors and continues with the camp environment and music. We want to show 'non-Jeepers' what the fuss is all about!" Camp Jeep recently won international recognition for "Best Program Generating Brand Loyalty" in the Marketing Agency Association (MAA) Worldwide 2002 GLOBES Awards. The event also won in the same category for Promo Magazine's annual PRO Awards earlier this fall. One of the most popular highlights of the event is the Jeep 101 courses, designed to teach attendees basic off-highway driving and safety skills, and to demonstrate capabilities of the Jeep Liberty, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Participants are paired with experienced guides as they negotiate steep downhill grades and encounter large rocks, log-crossings, sand and other off-highway obstacles. Once they have mastered the Jeep vehicle's capabilities, they can navigate various levels of 4x4 trails in their own Jeep vehicles. Jeep owners also can visit the Engineering Village and participate in roundtable discussions with Jeep engineers and other guests to learn more about what distinguishes a Jeep brand vehicle from any other four-wheel vehicle in the world. Camp Jeep 2003 and Camp Jeep California also will feature numerous lifestyle and family activities, live musical performances and a fireworks finale. Details will be released in a separate announcement. Camp Jeep is one of several owner-loyalty programs created by the Jeep division of DaimlerChrysler. Jeep Jamborees, which began in the 1950s, are the original off-highway vacation. From the Maine Mountains to the famed Rubicon Trail, approximately 7,000 owners participate in the more than 30 Jamborees held each year. The excellent response to Camp Jeep led to the spin-off of Jeep 101. Jeep 101 driving courses are offered in cities across the nation to provide owners and prospective owners basic skills of safe, yet adventurous off-road driving. Approximately 3,000 vehicles are expected to be registered for each Camp Jeep location in 2003. To date, approximately 55,000 people from 48 states have attended Camp Jeep. From 1995-1998, Camp Jeep was held in Camp Hale, Colo. From 1999-2001, Camp Jeep was located at Oak Ridge Estate in Nelson County, Va. In 2002, Camp Jeep was held at the White's Bar W Ranch near Branson, Mo. The event has sold out each year. People can visit the Jeep website to find more information about Camp Jeep on the web at www.jeep.com (enter keyword campjeep) or call 1-800-789-JEEP starting December 11. Registration for both events will begin in January 2003. Registration fees are $325 per Jeep vehicle for participation in all Camp Jeep activities and $95 per non-Jeep vehicle for participation in the Saturday (last day), activities.

And last but not least... Half the fun for me is seeing an entire field of Jeeps out in the parking lot, non-Jeeps would ruin this. For CJ 2001 there was some major rain, while Honda makes a great car (owned three) it one would not have made it through that slippery Tennessee mud in the parking lot. Some Jeeps with stock tires practically needed 4Hi to get out without spinning their tires, that would be a major mess, not to mention dangerous for any 2 (or 1) wheel drive road car or mini van.

Sometimes I wonder if the only thing DC can do to make some of you happy is to send engineers to your house and hand make your personal jeep to your specs in your own garage.

We travelled over 24 hours to get to Branson last year and are happy to have it back on the east coast. As for letting non-jeep owners in, let them buy their own jeep if they want to come so bad. This is supposed to be for jeep owners only, an elite club that makes it even more special.

I found Nelson County to be a lot more enjoyable... Branson just didn't seem very Jeep supportive.

But, some friends of mine and I were planning an adventure to the Colorado area this summer for camping, fishing, biking, off-roading, and a lot of other stuff. We would go to Camp Jeep, but we're bringing my friends Montero and it would not have been invited to the gathering. We'll have to plan for a different road trip; a much funner, and longer one. ;)

Originally posted by: ryan I agree this idea sucks. granted the eastern people have a shorter drive, but centrally locating it makes for an even distance for most people. besides that, I'm to understand from talking to others that it rains every year in VA at that time, and did so again this last year when it was held in branson. Branson was my first time, and I had a blast, but I was hoping for one more year at branson, then move it somewhere else and keep the scenery changing. I also am VERY dissapointed (but not surprised) by the non jeep owners thing. this is an OWNERS event to celebrate and spend time with other owners. not a sales event. I've always been a JEEP/mopar man, but this new foreign owned version of a corporation (and the almighty sales dollar being the ONLY thing these days) is slowly dissallusioning me. they said that the JEEP brand has the best loyalty of all. they won't keep that title if they continue in the direction they are headed.

Originally posted by: "The Big Three" (Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherok That's a wonderful point. I drive a Jeep Cherokee, and can bring 5 friends with me. But, my friends and I decided it will be too cramped for such a long trip; about 4,000+ miles there, so, one of my friends decided to split the load and bring his truck. That way, about 2 people per vehicle, and with just enough room for the bikes and whatever else we decide to bring. This new CampJeep thing is a great idea.

However, the whole idea of letting non jeep owners in to see how much fun "WE" have is silly. I agree if they want to join in, they can buy one just like the rest of us. If they want to try one out, go to Jeep 101 or Route 2002. Those are sales events. CJ is a loyalty event!I would hope non jeepers would only be permitted in if the event is not sold out to Jeep owners and that jeep owners get priority registration on everything. I hope DC will consider this part of the plan!

Letting in non owners on Saturday BS! What a marketing SCAM!!
How much are they going to discount the admission?, is my first question! My wife and i went to 2000 and 2001 @ Oak Ridge. First year wasn't bad, had a great time. 02 sucked, everything was booked early, including trail rides. By letting in non owners (for FREE??) there will be nothing left by noon. I just hope they don't let them on the trails!
I've said it before and i'll say it again... DC, YOU SUCK!!!!

I also think the move to the East and West coast is wrong. That leaves too much road time and not enough play time for us in the central states.

This event is for Jeep owners, let them have a different sales event.I went to Camp Jeep 1998 in Colorado and it was huge. We went again in 2002 and the crowds were even bigger. Many of the activities were full within the first 30 min the gates opened. We didn't get to do as many things due to the crowds, so why would you want to make it worse by letting non Jeep owners in.
