Chrysler Group's Sam Locricchio recently commented on the latest J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). The VDS looks at long-term durability of vehicles that are three years old.

It seems that in addition to improvements by Chrysler and Dodge, the Jeep brand improved a full 25 points - more than double the industry average.

The J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) is further proof the Chrysler Group quality continues to improve.
Each Chrysler Group brand saw improvements in long-term durability --- Chrysler made a slight improvement (3 pts. better), Dodge did better (15 pts.) than the overall industry improvement ( industry did 10 pts. better than last year) and the Jeep brand improved (25 pts.) more than double the industry. This metric reviews vehicles that are three years old which would reflect the 2003 model year; as we have stated in the past, as our newer vehicles continue to replace older vehicles in the consumer fleet, the full positive effects of all of our quality initiatives will be felt.

It appears that one of the big reasons the Jeep score improved so much was the Jeep Grand Cherokee interior. Consumers appeared to like improvements made in terms of features, controls, seats and sound systems.

On the downside, the Toledo Blade is reporting the the Liberty VDS dropped out of the top 3 in the compact SUV segment - falling below industry average.
