The Truth About Cars have listed their ten worst automobiles for 2007. Who comes in at #1?
1. Jeep Compass – Jeep’s recipe for disaster is both simple and comprehensive: laughable aesthetics, second-rate road manners, poky performance and interior materials pulled from the bottom drawer of Chrysler’s parts bin. But the Compass’ mortal sin-– for which we’ve slated it before, from which it can never be redeemed-– is the fact that this re-skinned all wheel-drive Dodge Caliber wears the storied Jeep badge. For shame.

![]() I actually laugh at people driving this down the road.
![]() What Jeep should have been doing is expanding their offerings with the JK platform by making a new Cherokee and Gladiator or Scrambler. If it was my decision, I would keep the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited, build a new Cherokee with Patriot styling, and build the Gladiator. Drop everything else. |

![]() I think there is a market for cars like the Compass, too. Indeed there is, or it would never have been built. I just don't think it's a market that Jeep could successfully capitalize on.
If you want a cutesy little hatchback, you don't think "Jeep" you think Scion or Mazda or Mini or Honda. When people think "Jeep," they likely think of a Wrangler. And all that goes along with a vehicle of that type. I think it's in Jeep's/Cerberus' best interest to capitalize on that: going with what makes a Jeep what it is. While the Compass isn't the root of the problems with the brand, the thinking behind it wasn't about capitalizing on what makes a Jeep a Jeep, it was trying to capitalize on what makes a Scion a Scion by putting a Jeep grille on it. That's a recipe for disaster in my opinion. Incidentally, it's interesting that 4 of the 10 they listed were Chrysler-made vehicles... |

![]() A little sidenote: the "o" in Compass, seen on the rear of the vehicle with crosshairs, is scarily similar to the symbol used by California's ZODIAC KILLER in the 70's to sign his cryptograms. Gee, how would I know that. Hee, hee, hee...

![]() It's ironic. A compass is used to figure out which direction you're going.
This Compass was indicating Jeep was being watered-down and moved in a bad direction. This week Cerebus/Chrysler announces 12,000 layoffs are coming. That's a pretty bad direction. |

![]() Hilarious article. They're right on the money with the Compass. Same thing we've been saying all along. Hopefully, the powers-that-be are taking note and making sure that such mistakes aren't repeated. The Compass should've either been the Willys2 or simply never been been built.
And that assessment of the Nitro made my day. |

![]() That's a pretty funny, and sadly true article. Scathing! lol! Too true about the Compass, if Jeep would have made it competitive with Subaru and Mitsubishi AWD rally rockets it might be worth something. The way it is, useless as a canoe in outer space.
