Apparently entering the letters C and R next to each other causes a carriage return on this site. The previous posting was referring to the Liberty C R D (common rail diesel).

I think the hummer and all its derivatives will be around for many years to come. GM did not make this huge investment to just see it dwindle to nothing, kinda like DCX is doing with jeep. I would like to see what GM could do with Jeep cuz DCX sure is not trying very hard. Yea they have some nice vehicles but my gosh they take soooo long to develope something new. Look at the wrangler its been around so long its amazing. The new grand is pure ugly on the outside and class on the inside. The liberty is great around towner and that it, offroad it lacks...I was walking through a used car lot and overheard a guy say while looking at a jeep, "The jeep front grill is trying to copy the hummer" I almost fell out. Its not true of course but does that matter? its what people believe and GM has done a great job of stealing Jeeps thunder and i dont think their are going to let up soon, DCX better do something and fast IMO.......

it apears that dcx does read sites like this....thats why they are building the 4 door wrangler a perfect xj replacement vehicle....A 4 door wrangler sfa with a 2.8 crd sign me up!!!!

It's too bad the XJ could'nt have stayed around.(safety regs) The '97-'01 model has sure aged gracefully. The H2 and H3 proves that this series was a hit. They are dead ringers for it..that is if DCX had evolutionized it instead of making the wimpy-looking Liberty>Most people; if given the chance would prefer a Brawnier Jeep...The series of Hummers proves that point.

This just goes to show that jeepers come in all ages. And it doesn't matter what the age, there will always be the competition between Jeep and Hummer. Me personally rather have a Jeep over a Hummer. I think that Hummers are over-rated. They are over priced and sure are NOT made like the military Hummer. Jeeps on the other hand, until recently, have stood the test of time.

I agree with the other commenters. In this month's "Four Wheeler" there is an interesting story on the new H-3 Hummer. It has options such as 4.56 gears, a 4:1 low range and comes with an electric rear locker and 33 inch tires. The problems are the stupid IFS, Rack and Pinon Steering, the windows are dinky and it is too long and too wide. But basically they liked it and it did the Rubicon. It's almost like Hummer is gunning for the XJ market that Jeep abandoned. Maybe this will wake DC up, but somehow I doubt it. They mentioned that Hummer may develop a Wrangler type vehicle next.

I agree with you Jon. the hummer just seems to be the in thing now but after the trend goes away the Hummer H2 and H3 will go with it.

With 33 inch tires the H3's departure, approach, and breakover angles are impressive; similar to a Wrangler (Non-Rubicon). If it came with SFA, I'd have to get one. IFS is too heavy, complex and unreliable compared to SFA. HUMMER H2 has some reliability issues as well.

Hummer is all about the bling-bling. Jeep is about offroad. How many rappers do you see driving Jeep Wranglers?

the hummer H2 has the same front suspension as a silverado or suburban. 4 wheeler mag has this article about converting a suburban to SFA and how that is better than the stock IFS.

The same issue of Four Wheeler has a good article on the Rescue, and the Four Wheeler Of The Year. The 2005 Grand Cherokee placed best out of the 3 Jeep entries but third overall. It got points off for its interior material quality, but reviewers gave very positive comments in other areas. The LR3 and the Toureag TDI placed in 2nd and 1st positions, respectively.

The other two Jeep entries were the Wrangler Unlimited and the Liberty
D. The Liberty
D received points off because of its low ground clearance (which apparently did not hinder its progress but disturbed the reviewers with constant banging and scraping on the front skid plate). The Wrangler Unlimited got points off for its reduced departure and breakover angles, and its poor performance in the sand dunes.

It must be a slow week for news.

It's a shame people even compare the two vehicles as other than being a 4X4 I don't know what a H2 and a Wrangler have in common.

I think that the Wrangler will be around for a long time. It will envolve and change but it's not going away. The H2 on the other hand.....
