As the YJ went into production shortly before Chrysler's purchase of AMC, your YJ was most likely engineered by the folks from AMC (who at the time was owned by Renault). This means your own Jeep would not be an American Jeep by your standards.

The Global Motor that will be used in the new Wrangler would only be a 4-cylinder version.

Good luck finding a vehicle that doesn't have some international influence.

Hyundai Mobis is a Korea-based company but the workers employed at the new Toledo plant will be American's. In fact, many will be former DCX employees. The same is true with the folks at the paint plant.

Hyundai-Mobis (BODY) is based in South Korea....

Durr (PAINT) is a German company....

Mitsubishi is partner with DCX in development of new GLOBAL motors for the Jeeps....

How the HECK does this translate to an AMERICAN- SOURCED Supplier like Jeep was when AMC and Kaiser-Frazer was running the place....

Sorry RUBI....That NEW Jeep is as American as SUSHI......

Just the facts, Jack.............

Startech (division of Brabus) has released their version of the Grand Cherokee.

I am not a fan of the cheap plastic look on the front.

PS: I just realized the Commander article I posted above was an article that has been around a couple of months. I am not sure why Auto123 posted it on their front page. Perhaps a slow news day?

well said, the companies are forign but the workers are ameerican, the XJ frame was designed by Renault for AMC. the stick in some early cherokees and YJs was from pugeot a french company. the cherokee auto transmission is made by assin seiki which is a japanese company partly owned by toyota. the stick and transfercase of the tj and gc was made by new venture gear which is now owned by magna-a canadian company. there is international influence everywhere in every car/truck.

And the CJ-10A, the most powerful Military Jeep ever built (could tow up to 20 tons), used a Nissan diesel engine. It shares the same square headlight design as your YJ.

And actually AMC was owned by Renault (the FRENCH company that now owns Nissan) from 1982 - 1986. This would mean that you are saying the Cherokee (which was engineered during this time frame) was not an American vehicle?

Your logic is seriously flawed my friend.

The new Wrangler chassis will be built by Hyundai Mobis, not Hyundai. Hyundai Mobis is a parts maker much like Arvin Meritor, Delphi, etc.

Aside from a possible 4-cylinder option, the engines will be built by DCX, not Mitsubishi.

Let Jeep and Jeep Wrangler die with dignity before it's too late....The last American Icon shall be no more.

With powertrain by Mitsubishi;
Body by Hyundai;

Even if built in Toledo by Americans.....

It's NOT a True American Jeep....

RIP Jeep....

who KNOWS that the
"NEW" Jeep isn't!

The TJ is at the end of it's life cycle. Sales will pick up just prior to the new Wrangler coming out. Gas prices are affecting all SUV sales and I am sure the TJ is not excluded. If I was in the market for a Wrangler and I knew a new model was less than a year away I would be waiting to at least see what it's going to look like.
