 In-Depth Jeep Patriot Off-Road Review |
Jeff sent us an email with a link to a great in-depth review of the Jeep Patriot. The great thing about the review is that it is focused on the off-road capabilities of the vehicle, and includes a blow-by-blow description of a trail run.
From the gully, we picked up the pace and ran the wash at moderate to high speeds, which was an excellent test of the Patriots rally capabilities. Keeping the CVT in low, the engine responds well and allowed me to correct for minor slides and exit the corners hard by pulling the front end around. The ESP goes into a secondary mode while in 4wd lock, low and with ESP off. It comes back on at 35 mph and only uses brake force correction to mitigate a skid. It works great and does not cut the throttle in that mode like nearly all competitors do. This, combined with the low COG, responsive motor and great dampening makes the Patriot a blast to drive in the fast stuff.

 Re: In-Depth Jeep Patriot Off-Road ReviewThis is quite a glowing review, Didn't it say there were DC people along, I'm not saying they wrote the review, but maybe they had some input. I just wish there were not so many comparisons to the XJ. The two vehicles are nothing alike and it seems to me a lot of people are getting their hopes up only to be disappointed later. "Best in Class" is always a good thing but, lets not forget the competition in this class.
30 mpg would be nice, and I am sure the aftermarket will step up with mods. It does look promising though |

Re: In-Depth Jeep Patriot Off-Road Review Hi-- I'm new to this forum. I've owned a 78 CJ, 3 mildly built XJ's (over 600k miles between them), an 05 KJ, and a 96 ZJ.
I am very interested in the Patriot after reading this and other reviews. Honestly, I expected the thing to be a joke. However, the low price, rugged appearance, excellent gas mileage and apparantly surpring capability make it of real interest to me. I need a vehicle for my 60 mile daily commute, snow driving, and weekend beach fishing and with enough room for my stuff. It is definitely not an XJ replacement and I find the comparisons kind of lame. However, as a competitor to the RAV4, CRV, Grand Vitara, Subaru Outback/Forester, etc. I think Jeep has a winner. Looking forward to a test drive. My main concern is the CVT transmission and its driveability and reliability. By the way, the Expeditions West article is the best 4x4 review I've read and Jeep would be smart to hand out copies at the dealership. |

Re: In-Depth Jeep Patriot Off-Road Review That is a very nice write up. It shows that the stock Patriot is as capable as a stock Cherokee (although the Cherokee is most likely more durable due to it's simplistic design).
It will be interesting to see what the aftermarket starts producing for the Patriot in the way of lift kits, bumper, body protection, etc. Jeep should push this vehicles off-road capabilities with references to articles like this and the one from Rockcrawler. |
