Mahindra plans to start selling light trucks in U.S. in 2009.
Global Vehicles U.S.A. Inc. expects to start selling Mahindra-brand imported diesel light trucks in the United States in March 2009.
Global is signing up retailers for the truck-only franchise. The suburban Atlanta company says it has issued 288 letters of intent to dealers.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. of Mumbai, India, has been known primarily as a tractor manufacturer. It has tractor sales and production operations around the world. The company also is a long-standing supplier of a diesel-engine Willys Jeep under license to the Indian military.

![]() Global Vehicles USA is the same group of folks (with a different company name) who TRIED unsuccessfully to bring us the ARO Crosslander a few years back (Romanian-built SUV that kinda looks like an Eastern-block Defender...). They were based in Miami; now based in Alpharetta, GA.
![]() It doesn't seem like they have enough "tug" to get past the NHTSA & EPA req'ts. If Mahindra is talking with Chrysler, they'd have a better chance getting the vehicles in the U.S... But that doesn't seem to jibe with Chrysler's "shrinking" lineup. Unless, Cerberus is planning on divesting Jeep to Mahindra. ![]() ![]() I wouldn't get too excited about the Mahindra diesels just yet. The chance of those meeting the new EPA reqs are zero to nil. ![]() I can almost envision a day where the JT is off-road tested against H3T, the Mahindra 4-seat truck ("Scorpio Getaway", I think it's called), and the Ford SportTrac. Oh wait, I just woke up; it must've been a dream... ![]() |
