Future Jeep Interiors to Get Upgrade From Visteon

An award-winning designer of vehicle interiors signs on with Jeep

Visteon Corporation's interior systems understanding, eye for design, consumer insight and innovative manufacturing will come together to differentiate the interior of a future Jeep vehicle.
Today's consumers value attention to detail inside and outside their vehicles. Visteon, the world's leading cockpit supplier, will deliver its award-winning hard mold-in-color instrument panel, door trim and console for the upcoming vehicle. The attractive yet rugged interior will combine Visteon's cockpit and assembly expertise with knowledge of consumer expectations for interior harmony and attention to detail. This hard mold-in-color cockpit, along with door and console components will be delivered in sequence, just-in-time as the Jeep assembly plant needs them.

I have a TJ and XJ (which - pretty much -have the same interior). I just love the old CJ interior. It was that way for so long and unique at the same time. If you look at the new Land Rover Defender interior, it is modern but still retains the stying cues from the old Land Rovers. I think it'd be awesome to do the same with the new Wrangler but have it look like the CJ interior with modern updates. They make airbags so small now that you could even bring back the old style steering wheel. With a flat dash and the old CJ gauges, I think it'd be slick. I like what the new Mustang interior looks like. I like the Chevy SSR. Jeep could do the same. Then you'd have a classic exterior and interior to match. If you want progress, why not just trash the Wrangler and build the Icon? Yuck! I guess I'm just tired of the same old autos (not just Jeeps) with the interior that looks like one big stamped piece of plastic.

If that were the case, yes- I would prefer a CJ-like interior. But honestly I like the interior of the TJ, and I hope that they do not make it look like something that came out of a play-do factory.

My advice, make it look like a CJ - the best Jeep interior ever done (in my opinion). Cut down on the tacky plastic too.

All while I sat in my realtivly quiet and warm TJ with no breeze coming in around the door seals. Thank God for progress! Would I like to have my CJ-5 back in original condition? Sure, but it wouldn't be my choice for the daily driver. Let's face it folks we can have the best of both worlds. We can rebuild it. We have the technology.
