An award-winning designer of vehicle interiors signs on with Jeep

This comes to us from a Visteon Corporation press release...

Visteon Corporation's interior systems understanding, eye for design, consumer insight and innovative manufacturing will come together to differentiate the interior of a future Jeep vehicle.

Today's consumers value attention to detail inside and outside their vehicles. Visteon, the world's leading cockpit supplier, will deliver its award-winning hard mold-in-color instrument panel, door trim and console for the upcoming vehicle. The attractive yet rugged interior will combine Visteon's cockpit and assembly expertise with knowledge of consumer expectations for interior harmony and attention to detail. This hard mold-in-color cockpit, along with door and console components will be delivered in sequence, just-in-time as the Jeep assembly plant needs them.

"We are pleased to be able to build on our relationship with DaimlerChrysler and in particular the Jeep brand," said Julie Fream, Visteon vice president and general manager of the DaimlerChrysler Customer Business Group. "We believe our consumer insight, customer focus, speed-to-market and award-winning manufacturing processes will deliver the attention to detail Jeep customers expect in the interior of their vehicles."

Visteon Corporation is a leading full-service supplier that delivers consumer-driven technology solutions to automotive manufacturers worldwide and through multiple channels within the global automotive aftermarket. Visteon has approximately 72,000 employees and a global delivery system of more than 200 technical, manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 25 countries.

Interestingly, Visteon used to be a wholly owned enterprise of Ford Motor Company. They currently sell parts to automakers around the world, including General Motors, Daimler-Chrysler, Volvo, Toyota, and Nissan.

I don't see why anyone would think Wyatts comment was negative! He wasn't commenting on
the CJ's outdated engine or on the fact that
its roof or doorseals would (obviously) leak
after 30-odd years..He simply stated he preferred the interior dash design more than the
new TJ's..and so do I!
I love the simple flat dash and gauges. Remember,
its the new airbags that stop our foreheads, not the dash..do you wear a seatbelt? Jeep could still mount airbags in the steering wheela nd a somewhat flat dash. It wasn't a negative comment,
although what followed was....

Sorry if you thought that my comments were negative. They weren't meant to be.

If you like the current TJ interior, that's fine. I have a TJ and XJ (which - pretty much -have the same interior).

I just love the old CJ interior. It was that way for so long and unique at the same time. If you look at the new Land Rover Defender interior, it is modern but still retains the stying cues from the old Land Rovers. I think it'd be awesome to do the same with the new Wrangler but have it look like the CJ interior with modern updates.

They make airbags so small now that you could even bring back the old style steering wheel. With a flat dash and the old CJ gauges, I think it'd be slick.

I like what the new Mustang interior looks like. I like the Chevy SSR. Jeep could do the same. Then you'd have a classic exterior and interior to match.

If you want progress, why not just trash the Wrangler and build the Icon? Yuck!

I guess I'm just tired of the same old autos (not just Jeeps) with the interior that looks like one big stamped piece of plastic.

They can make it look like a CJ and make it safe with today's technology. I also hope that they don't make it look like a Toyota. My first car was a 1980 Corolla which looks similar to the modern 4-Runner. I also hope they don't make it look like a Chevy.

The new Ford F150s have a decent looking interior; as does the new Land Rover LR3.

Ditto on Wyatt. He wasn't being negative, just expressing a valid opinion. The only negativity is the reaction of some...

I dont want the interior to look like a CJ and dont want it to look like a TJ lets get a whole new look. If your stuck on the past maybe you should be wearing designer jeans and elton john glasses.......it might just look good driving your CJ...

The article states "This hard mold-in-color cockpit"... what I hope is that this is not similar to the interior (dash board more specifically) of most Toyotas (one of the company's Visteon supplies), which is the most bland, cheap plastic-like interior Ive ever come across in my life. If that were the case, yes- I would prefer a CJ-like interior. But honestly I like the interior of the TJ, and I hope that they do not make it look like something that came out of a play-do factory.

Interesting...I didn't realize that interiors were contracted out like this.

The Wrangler does need a new interior. My TJ looks like a Dodge Aries. My advice, make it look like a CJ - the best Jeep interior ever done (in my opinion).

Cut down on the tacky plastic too.

The current Wrangler interior is pretty boring now. It looked good when it replaced the previous Wrangler but now it looks kind of plain. Hopefully the next gen Wrangler will go have more style and have somewhat of a retro feel but still be modern and safe. It can be done and is being done. Jeep has a challange to keep their past alive but also be progessive with their designs.
I don't want my Jeep to look like a Hummer though!
Way too trendy and will be out of style soon.

The only thing DC must know when upgrading the TJ is the following:

A Jeep will always be a Jeep if...

Its fun to drive in the summer with the top down, just make it easy to do. Make it survive the trails and the potholes without much worry. Keep it small enough to drive it off-road, the Hummer is not a Jeep. Most of all let me stay brand loyal by maintaining the Jeep heritage because I wouldn't hit a dog with a Ford, GM, Euro or any other rice burner available.

Negative people like Wyatt is why I cring sometimes when I read this site. No matter what an article might say someone wants to bring us back into the 60's. This morning I pasted a CJ-7 on the highway in my 03'TJ. The CJ was buckin' and the soft door top was blowing open. The guy had a hood on his head, it was obvious he was freezing. All while I sat in my realtivly quiet and warm TJ with no breeze coming in around the door seals. Thank God for progress! Would I like to have my CJ-5 back in original condition? Sure, but it wouldn't be my choice for the daily driver. Let's face it folks we can have the best of both worlds. We can rebuild it. We have the technology.

Well, I like the interiors of the new Fords, so if Visteon did those then I'd be pretty happy with them and Jeep. Ford seems to have a relatively simple and easy layout for the inside, overall.
