DaimlerChrysler officially debuts the Unlimited Rubicon
(from a DaimlerChrysler press release)
The Jeep Wrangler legend grows again, this time delivering Rubicon capability in a package Unlimited in scope. With the all-new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, Jeep celebrates the marriage of its ultimate off-road rig – the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon – to the new, roomier, versatile Wrangler – the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. “The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is the ultimate Wrangler and will attract a broad spectrum of buyers,” said Jeff Bell, Vice President, Jeep. “Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been a tremendous success for the extreme off-road enthusiast, as well as for consumers looking for superior capability in everything they do. Combine that with the spacious Unlimited model, and the result is the best of all things Wrangler: the all-new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. “Jeep Wrangler is the icon of the Jeep brand,” Bell continued. “With the all-new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, we have expanded the rugged appeal of the standard Wrangler to bring new customers into the fold, whether to conquer extreme off-road trails with added room to bring along gear, or to have the ultimate showpiece of Jeep capability – now with more space.” Building on the success of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the all-new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon takes extreme off-roading to the next level, while simultaneously adding 15 inches to Wrangler’s overall length. The result is 22.3 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second seat, versus 9.5 cubic feet in the standard wheelbase Jeep Wrangler. Of the 15 inches, 13 inches are added to the cargo area and two inches are added to second-row leg room – all while maintaining the Wrangler Rubicon’s legendary 4x4 prowess. The 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon model builds on the award-winning capability of Wrangler Rubicon with an off-road system that includes locking front and rear differentials, front and rear Dana model 44 axles, four-wheel disc brakes and a 4:1 low-range transfer case. The all-new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon features a Rock-Trac™ transfer case with 4:1 “low range” that slows vehicle speed in order to give the driver more control, while increasing the amount of available torque. In addition, front and rear axles include “air-actuated” Tru-Lok™ locking differentials which maximize traction.
The 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon features unique heavy gauge diamond-plate sill guards, 16-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels and a “Rubicon” graphic placed prominently on each side of the hood – a badge reserved only for Jeep’s ultimate off-road rigs.
The all-new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon includes the innovative new Sunrider™ soft top, which includes a “sun roof” feature in addition to the full top-down option. This new soft top gives a second open-air option by folding the soft top back completely over the driver and front passenger to create a 45x23 inch sun roof opening — larger than any typical glass sun roof. The Sunrider soft top includes larger deep-tinted side windows — 40.5x17.8 inches versus 31.3x21.5 inches on the standard wheelbase Wrangler -- giving second-row passengers a better view. “Both Unlimited models attest to Jeep Wrangler’s unique positioning in the marketplace as one-of-a-kind vehicles with no true competitors,” Bell said. “No other vehicle can match the emotional connection with the outdoors and the excitement of driving with the top down, doors off and the windshield down on the trails.” The 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is also available with a hard top that comes standard with deep-tinted rear windows, as well as rear defroster and rear window wiper and washer.

Why can't Jeep offer what is already built. AEV built the perfect Jeep, minus the diesel. A pefect Liberty w/
D and offroad kit was at 2004 SEMA, AEV also builds perfect Cherokee, although the tires are too large for day to day use. If Jeep bilt the Rescue and packaged it right (Base to full rescue package) it would close the deal on everything from the Tahoe to the Landrover.

The only down side is that some wash rack/porter kid gets to put the first 175 miles on it.
I'll offer to go pick it up if they'll let me.

Why did'nt I buy it? I'm like alot of you and have one on order (Oct 6th) and have been told ship date out of plant was Dec 17th. We'll see as my info has changed on a daily basis.
The test drive? Sweet!!! Over dirt piles with ease and the locker were not necessary. Of course I kicked them in! Just for the heck of it. The salesman let me pin stripe it a bit too!

My dealer is giving me 15,100 for my 01 with all the options (5 speed, black) and 35k miles anybody want it for 15.2?!

The new manual has a very low 'granny' gear that should really help in tough situations. The Dual top option was made available for order as of Nov. 8th. First day of production for all 2005 Rubicon Unlimiteds was also Nov. 8th. I don't know how the holiday season will effect order times. From my experience, it could go either way. SOMETIMES, production is actually increased just prior to the holiday break to help relieve the backlog of after Christmas production. Unfortunately, it can also delay by a couple weeks or so...depending upon when your order falls in the schedule. I ordered my Rubicon Unlimited on Nov. 12th.

Christmas so I could do some 4 wheelin' over
the long weekend BUT realistically if they did
ship it before Christmas we'd be talking about
the day or two before (22nd or 23rd) and
there's not enough time to break it in easy
before the weekend then anyway.

The 6 spd batch may be starting today(12/06/04) but the factory closes down for the last 3 weeks. I heard that ,from begining to end ,it takes 10 days to build. Any assembly workers out there with some tidbits?

The last I heard, you still can not order the vehicle as a dual top setup. There is some issue with installing the softop and hardtop together. Many dealers are willing to order your additional top, but I don't think you will get a big savings (maybe around 10% off list). |

There is a soft-top liner that is available for SWB models, and is coming out for LWB models, that should greatly improve the noise and temperature insulation quality though. It's a quilted liner that uses Velcro to adhere to the inside of the top. I believe it'll work on the soft and hard tops. Just the thickness and weight of it should also help a little with the thrashing and flapping too. I believe that Slick Tops offers one...I'll find out for sure.

Since then the dealer said I couldn't change my color request and today said they couldn't change the order to dual tops. I've got the hard top on order with a purchase of a soft top from the dealer when it arrives. More $ of course.
That's the other kicker... take my order, require a $500 deposit and then leave me hanging on a production date? When will they produce these???
My order was in Oct 6th, you'd think I'd be in the first production run.
