CommanderConfirmation of Jeep Commander in 2005?
Posted by mike on 2004/6/3 23:00:00 (282) reads

Reports in the news indicate that a production Commander is coming.

Several online news organizations are reporting that Chrysler has let it slip that they will be introducing a "large Jeep Commander built onthe Jeep Grand Cherokee platform" in 2005. So far, that's all we know, but the following Web sites are all reporting the same thing:

We'll keep an eye out for more on this story as it develops.

In the meantime, check out our previous stories on the Jeep Commander concept vehicle:
Now, keep in mind that we have no idea if the forthcoming Commander is going to be anything like the concept vehicle.

I believe a release date is october 2005 for the rescue/cammander that will seat 7. As long as they stay close to the rescue concept, it will out sell the H2!!!!!!!!!!

I OWN A 2003 GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 4X4 AND AM DISCOURAGED BY JEEPS LACK OF FORESIGHT TO LEAVE SOME ROOM IN THE WHEEL WELLS FOR OFF ROAD TIRES. I FOUND A SET OF BRIDGESTONE DUELLERS M/T, SAME SIZE AS STOCK, BUT THEY STILL RUB WHEN BACKING OUT SHARPLY. WHY, I ASK, DOES JEEP BUILD SUCH A POWERFULL 4 WHEEL DRIVE THAT CANT BE UTILIZED TO ITS MAX.

One hopes DCX will take a bunch of design cues from the Rescue concept - and the Cummins diesel powerplant as well - instead of merely stretching the Grandmobile. A Commander (or Rescue), done right, would be formidable competition for such vehicles as the Trailblazer and the Envoy, as well as the large utes from Toyota and Nissan.

Yeah. If it is just a streched Grand Cherokee, it'll be a let down.

I'll bet it's a twin TTR (through the road) drive system using the new 4 or 5 Cylinder Turbodiesel as a Genset to power the hybrid drivetrain, as fuel cells are still a long way off.
The Genset would only have to run at a constant speed (it's most efficent speed) to generate power, with the battery storage providing peak energy discharge for acceleration, and regenerating power using Regenerative Braking...
RUN THE RUBICON AND GET 40 MPG? I'M ALL 4 IT!!!

I will bet money that this new vehicle will take design cues from the Rescue concept!
They know the success of the Hummer and this would be there big chance to go head to head with the H2.
