MiscellaneousJeep Scrambler Spy Shots Hit the Web!

Photos of the 2005 Jeep Scrambler hit the web on TheCarConnection.com

TheCarConnection.com is claiming the first "spy" shots of the 2005 Jeep Scrambler - the shots were actually taken at a recent NADA conference - the Scrambler in the photo is actually just a "engineering concept" - but should give a pretty good indication of the final product that we'll see next summer.

Here's a snippet from the article:

This engineering concept has a 19-inch stretched wheelbase, but the actual production model will be stretched far less – only 10 inches as stated on Jeep’s very own display, with a 5-inch overhang stretch. But sources are now telling us that there may be both long- and short-wheelbase versions. The bed itself will measure in at approximately four feet, and the Scrambler will be powered by a four-cylinder engine, with an in-line six option.

The Scrambler concept shown here has a removable top, but others have spied a soft-top version as well. The Toledo, Ohio-built Scrambler will be produced in limited numbers of about 20,000 units per year.

I agree with all the AEV comments. The Brute is amazing looking. I'm no genious, but I know what I like! The DC version is just terrible. Just some exec's hoping the masses will line up like lemmings to purchase half-baked ideas from the past. I am proud of all my DC's (300C, T&C minivan and my TJ), don't get me wrong. But come on now... AEV's Brute is absolutely the way to go. Working with AEV might be like hitting your thumb with a hammer, but the truck looks great. I read what people said about the I6 being bullet-proof, which is why it should always be an optional engine in a TJ type vehicle. But but that 5.7 HEMI in a Wrangler Unlimited... I just can't believ DC isn't tripping over themselves to take advantage of the potential.

I own a nice 83 scrambler that I was going to restore. With the news of a new scrambler I
will not do so. Instead I will seek out a way to put my name on a list to purchase a new one as soon as they come on the market

Jeff-The Willys Wagon was designed as a civilian vehicle AFTER WWII. It was not a war wagon. It was the world's first all steel stationwagon. Even one with a stock 4 cylinder will go places a Liberty would never even dream about. And they look much cooler, and yes, it could use a V8.

Yeah, the I6 is perfect for this application. Nice torque in the perfect spot on the bandwidth. I don't particularly enjoy wheelspin, so I'm not sure a huge engine with anything less than 31"s would fit the bill.

hey man dont diss the 6!! that engine has proven itself as bulletproof. Every single person iv talked to has but at least 300k miles on it and have hardly had a problem, myself included. Now im not saying that the 4.7 is bad, but it is not near as good as an engine durability wise when compared to the 6. also, there would be some major fitting issues. Even if youd be able to fit that V8 in there, youd still need a bigger than stock radiator and fan. They would have to redesign the whole front end, which costs sh*tloads of $$$. while some V8 power would be nice, its not waht you need in a TJ. Its not like it weighs as much as a hummer or somthing.

It's a good place to start. Let's hope they wise up on a four foot bed...it needs to be 60" minimum. That would allow for two old style bench seats and seating for six. A full hard top would be nice. Most of us can't afford an 112" AEV.

This looks exactly like the freakish creation that my neighbor had built for about $40,000. He started with a 2001 TJ and added about a foot of wheelbase and sheetmetal to it. The final result looks like a high school project and is just butt-ugly. It's a great idea, but this version sure needs some work.

I own both a '00 TJ and an '83 CJ-8 and love them both. I always hoped Jeep would bring back the Scrambler with the TJ's coil suspension, 4.0 motor, and other updated goodies, but this looks like a streched turd with no rollbar. I'm sure the aftermarket can help things but I'm disappointed in this version to say the least. I'd rather see something like AEV's Brute or the Dakar come off the line. I don't know who Jeep surveyed before building this, but it definitely wasn't me or anyone else that has visited this page.

A long wheelbase Wrangler is certainly a big step in the right direction. A 4 door version or a Dakar with a removable roof would be great. I'd even like to see a retro Willys Wagon. In any case it should have a turbo diesel engine option ande the Rubicon equipment.

I like the Scrambler of old alot. But I agree with the others in that the wheelbase should be extended. Otherwise, the box in the back would barely hold a bunch of small logs. I like the Dakar ALOT. I wish they would move forward with that one. Anyone see the Brute? Now that's a JEEP........

here is my comment: The idea of a scrambler is great. In a pickup version it should look like the AEV-Brute. In a commuter version a Dakar-like design would be great. In both options a Rubicon package should be available. O yeah, for me living in the Netherlands Europe, a nice diesel (4 litre v8 out of the Mercedes ML) would be a fantastic thing. Stronger than that is almost impossible, so absolutly Jeep worthy. If this happens my Frontier is traded in just like that.

I think all the above comments are all vital, and shows Jeep that the Wrangler truly is the real Jeep. I offer this. The photos arent bad what did you expect Jeep is not the qutetest vehicle in the world however it is the most recognized, and I admire DC for not messing with a legend. This truck will have so many applications I cant even imagine, Airforce ramp trucks, postal bulk trucks, curior businesses. So I leave this Idea to DC engineering, offer a full roof option removable or folddown seat, hey make the rear seat optional, add four door strech version later. And lets give it the name of Willis. Buy the way Nice job I think the truck looks GREAT!

Ok, seriously, only Chrysler could take a concept as pure and rock solid as the Scrambler and pervert into something so pathetic. I guess it'll need four wheel drive to get over the speed bumps.

Hey Chrysler how bout doing something good for the Jeep name and give me either the 4.7 litre V-8 or some real power. I drive a 99 wrangler and the first thing i did was dump out the stupid 4 banger and replace it with a 4.7 litre. Wise up to the thought of more power and we will pay for it too. Fix what you have now before taking on more projects that arent worth a darn thing,,,should i say Liberty and this stupid Willys Wagon. The willys wasnt a womans grocery cart it was a straight war front mud dobber at best!!!!!

here is my comment I like this Scrambler, but I really feel they would be better off creating a 4 door Wrangler similar to the Dakar concept of a few years back. That would sell much more then the Scrambler. I would buy one in a minute. I am not interested in the cute little turd they call "Liberty", build the 4 door Wrangler.

I love my Frontier, it just got me through the big blizzard without a hitch..and yes it IS better then my old Cherokee.....but I am very happy to announce...that I've decided to keep my Jeep CJ7.... so you jeep owners should be proud of me.

Anyway this new Scrambler is butt ugly, and if you noticed, they say they don't plan on offering the longer wheelbase for the production model, which means the bed will be even smaller, and there will be no chance for a 4 door version.

On another side note, I'm in RI, I can't believe what happened last night.

Imitate the wrangler? It is a Wrangler, for chrissakes. Putting another 10 inches on the wheelbase ain't gonna change that. This is a great development, ugly and all. And I might add those extra ten inches will help immensely for those who want to tow something larger than their suitcase...

Don't try to imitate the Wrangler and don't use it as a base for another vehicle! It's Original, leave it at that.

I haven't seen any such rumors, but will say that the only thing that would make me give up my beloved '99 XJ is a Dakar. The Scrambler is one step away from a solid axle, I6 Dakar and I would be in a dealership to order as soon as they were announced. The fully-extended Scrambler (19+ inches vs. the 10 inches) that is apparently being produced for military applications is definitely something I'd lust after if it became available for civilian duty in the States...

Great idea! I had a Scrambler years ago and loved the little truck, but when I traded it in, the dealership gave me next to nothing for it claiming that it had no value to them since nobody wanted Scramblers. Try to buy one now. If you can find one for under $5000, buy it. I hope they fix the leaks between the bed and the cab. Where's the roll bar?
