Chrysler, LLC has announced that they will be eliminating 12,000 jobs over the next 14 months, including shifts at all three assembly plants that produce Jeep vehicles.
"I think we just got sold out by our leadership," said Edward Mendrysa, 56, of Southgate, who for the past 13 years has worked on the door line at the Jefferson North plant in Detroit. The plant, which makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander sport utility vehicles, is one of five that will have a shift eliminated under the plan.
...snip...
In addition to Jefferson North, shifts will be cut at vehicle assembly plants in Belvidere, Ill.; Toledo, Ohio; Brampton, Ontario; and Sterling Heights in suburban Detroit. About 200 jobs will be cut at the company's Mack Avenue engine plant in Detroit. Around 5,000 workers will be cut due to the shift eliminations; other cuts will be made throughout the system.

![]() This is what happens when you put a fresh set of eyes in charge of a corporation.
They're being smart about things. They're cutting out vehicles and jobs in an effort to make the company both profitable and efficient. It's a necessary evil. And a good sign, too, in my opinion. If it's profitable, then you can assume Cerberus will do it (that includes building a compact pickup, /in my opinion). Hopefully, they take a long look at what makes Jeep successful and build upon it instead of trying to view what is successful in some other brands and trying to mold Jeep into that. Read: let Scion build the cutesy hatchbacks and let Jeep build Jeeps... |

![]() Good article from Detroit News
Here's one good quote, however harsh: One more brutal pruning is what happens when the harsh light of cold business logic, as practiced by Chrysler owner Cerberus, shines on a company that spent the past nine years under German owners whose misunderstanding of the American volume car business is unmatched in recent times. |

![]() Not a big surprise. The union keeps drawing more and more money out of manufacturers. They have to cut somewhere. I don't feel sorry at all for the workers getting laid off. They get most of their pay and can sit on the butts until they are brought back on. Boo hoo, cry me a river.
