Sales are up compared to January, down compared with last year.
Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 170,614 units in February 2003, a four percent decline compared with February 2002, when sales totaled 178,642 units. February sales mark a 38 percent increase when compared with January 2003 levels. "Although much of the industry was adversely affected last month by the sluggish economy, snow storms in the east, and concerns about a possible military conflict, the latest sales results show that consumers are willing to get back into the market when great product and value are available," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales. "We plan to continue to build on the strength of our 'Best Values in America' sales campaign because it provides a point of clarity for consumers," added Dilts. "The campaign combines our product, our warranty and incentive messages into one package that clearly offers the best car and truck values in the U.S. automotive market today." Among the Chrysler Group's top performers in February was the Jeep(R) Liberty with sales of 11,832 units, an increase of three percent compared with February 2002. Dodge Durango sales were up three percent compared to last year with sales of 9,293 units, and the Dodge Dakota posted sales of 9,723 units, an increase of one percent compared to year-earlier levels. Finally, one of our readers filled us in with some info about why we're seeing 2004 models at Jeep dealerships already - it looks like the changes between the 2003 and 2004 model-year Jeeps are so few that no retooling will be necessary, so 2004 models are here early.

Of all the Jeep lines, the GC has traditionally appealed to those more interested in "luxury" than "off-road capability." That's what the crossovers main appeal is, and unfortunately at the expense of GC sales

Originally posted by: Bob Like it or not, the Grand Cherokee's sales decline is directly related to the popularity of crossover SUVs, that directly compete with the Grand Cherokee for sales: The Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Murano, etc.
They may not go off road like the Grand Cherokee, but as "daily drivers," they satisfy the needs of their owners better

Originally posted by: OR Bruce I'm one year into my first Grand after three XJs over 13 years. I agree I like the looks, square corners, and compact size of the Cherokee better, but the Grand grows on you. It steers and rides better than an XJ, is quieter and better quality, has more room, same mileage, etc. Other than size, it's just as good or better off-highway, well, it does have about 1" less clearance at the rocker than my last XJ. You can slide a whole 5 gallon bucket under the rockers from wheel to wheel without hitting anything. It's also a lot smoother riding in the dirt, and you can select 1st or 2nd gear in low range without it shifting on you. Halleluja! The choice for us was easy vs. a Liberty. A basic Laredo after all the incentives was a great deal, but still, more than a Leberty or XJ. Can't get the Quadra Drive on a Laredo, but it's hard to miss what I never had on a Cherokee.

So jeep went to the drawing board and came out with a great car. The point im trying to make is even though it may look differant, its still a jeep. and its still got live axles, so im counting my jeep blessings.
