Car and Driver compares a JK with an H3 - kind of a senseless comparison. It would have been better to see an Unlimited Rubicon JK versus the Base H3 with its off-road package --the prices would be nearly identical instead of $10K+ apart.
Maybe in the near future, the H3 Alpha will be pitted against an Unlimited Rubicon JK with the new 305HP 4.7L-V8 or a torque monster 3.0L-CRD turbodiesel. We can only wait & hope.
What next Car & Driver? A comparison between a base Solstice and a Corvette ZR1?

![]() I'd like to see the new 4.7 L V8 in the JK...he engine compartment is wider, and that would mean Flex Fuel and 305 HP, but still no MDS, or stickshift.

![]() The pictures and article indicate it is the Rubicon Umlimited model, so I'd say it's as fair as can be.
Rubicon has lockers etc. Alpha has V8. Everyone has their preferences. I too interpretted the conclusion as the Jeep won this comparo... but just barely. It's a shame the ORT engineers over at Jeep do not have the gajones to just throw the bean-counters overboard and mutiny the ship! Jeep, If you listen really hard, you can hear the engineers over at GM snickering and laughing at your 3.8L V6 and it's 16mpg. They don't even need a hybrid to beat that! Now I'm wondering if the much wished-for 3.0L CRD would really be enough? |

![]() P.S. --One more gripe before I forget. I sat in an H3 Alpha, and it was pretty nice. A little too much leather & luxo for me, but I'm a Spartan at heart (not the nasty part...) The Alpha has a great engine, BUT NO STICKoption!
The Hummers & Wranglers share a kinship (military roots) and I liked the fact that the H3 comes with a stick... but they went to the V8, it was auto only. Crap! I'm hoping the H3T will have a stick with a V8 option, but I know my hopes will be dashed gain. I drove a Commander with the new 4.7L with the manumatic gizmo (no real stick) and the 300+HP engine is awesome. The shifting was tedious, at least for my left foot hitting the ghost pedal. If they put the 4.7L in the Wrangler, please Dear Lord, let 'em have an optional STICK. Or I'll pay Chip Foose to put the RAM 2500 gearbox in... ![]() |
