Consumer Reports just released their good and bad bets for used vehicles. While the "good bets" are dominated by Japanese imports, the "bad bets" had one standout that is of interest to our readers - the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Here's a snippet:
Used cars often offer consumers the best values in the automotive market since new vehicles undergo a rapid depreciation in the first few years. Consumer Reports 2007 April Auto Issue features the lists of the best and worst used vehicles for 10 model years, 1997 through 2006.
Reliable vehicles and Vehicles to avoid include all models that showed above- or below-average overall reliability in CR's 2006 Annual Car Reliability Survey, which drew responses on about 1.3 million vehicles. CR has found that improved reliability has made used cars more appealing and insurance rates tend to be less expensive.

![]() They really are idiots. In their latest edition they rank 4 wheel drive vehicles into best and worst off road categories. They place the commander in the best and the grand in the worst even though they are mechanical twins.

![]() It appears that they are refering to the last generation Grand Cherokee (WJ). 1999-2004. They said the 05-06 models were too new to test.
I suspect they will find the WK/XK much better. I had a 2000 WJ which was pretty trouble free exept for the brakes. It does not surprise me that the list looks the way it does. CR pretty much says "Jap cars good, everything else bad" so why would you even buy it their rag? If I am not mistaken JD Powers is testing for initial consumer satisfaction during the first couple of years of ownership? |

![]() Not one American vehicle on the list, yet Chrysler/Dodge minivans have won how many JD Power awards?
So the blue-screening Prius that has major quality issues with fit and finish (cloth peeling off the sun visors and center console lid, etc.) makes the list. CR just makes me sick. *vomit* |
