Jeep 2500

Beijing Jeep debuted an all-new version of their Jeep 2500 recently.

From autoindex.org:

Powered by the proven 2.5-liter four cylinder engine and available in both 4x2 and 4x4 variations the new Jeep 2500 is essentially still an old Jeep Grand Cherokee with a new face.

The interior was also revamped with new steering wheel and seats

So far more than 500 orders were taken.

Beijing Jeep is a joint venture between Beijing Automobile Works and American Motors Corporation (AMC). In 1987, Chrysler bought AMC and assumed AMCs role as joint venture partner. In 1998 the newly formed DaimlerChrysler took over 42.4 per cent of the stakes, while Beijing Auto Works holds the remaining 57.6 per cent.

BJC set up 31 authorized dealers and signed sales contracts with 152 auto trade companies. BJC also set up 89 service centers around China. Customers consist of government institutes, state owned enterprises, township enterprises, military and private users. Most of the vehicles are for business use.

From 2003 two Mitsubishi off-roaders are also being assembled. Production will be ramped up to 50,000 units by 2004.

Our reader who gave us the heads-up on this article said that it looks like, "looks like Liberty components tacked on in and out". Be sure to check out the entire article for additional photos.

Looks good, but the 4 cylinder still scares me.

Wow.

I truly hope they sell this Jeep in the United States. I would seriously think about buying one (with the money I don't have).

Maybe they're selling it only in Europe to see how demand goes?

here is my comment
We just traded our 1998 Cherokee for a 2002 Liberty, mainly because my mom will be traveling with us a good bit, and the Liberty back seat is more comfortable. But check out this interior ...I'll be tempted to trade back to the Cherokee look-alike if it comes over here!

I'll add my name to the "It looks better than the Liberty" column. Still thimk dicontinuing the Cherokee was a mistake!

It looks as if the front fenders, hood, bumper, lights and grill assembly are new. I wonder if we could order the new parts and build one ourselves. Somebody check into to that and let me know. : )

I too like this so much more than the Liberty! Too bad we can't get it here. I note a correction to the article: It says that it is based on the Grand Cherokee. We can all see that it is based on the Cherokee.

DC should take some pointers from BJC, this is what the Liberty should look like in the US. Make the front clip modular so you can plug in an IFS for 4x2 models and a solid axle for 4x4 models. This would please everyone.

The interior of the model once known as the XJ could also have been updated to be more modern.

I would definately buy this Jeep if DC offered it in the US!

Why is that the Jeepers in China can still buy a brand new Cherokee (XJ) and we can't. That really sucks! As for the restyle, I still like the post '97 front better.

I love this Jeep. It is a perfect update of my 99 Cherokee. The styling reminds me of the Commander Concept. That is what the Liberty should have looked like. Give me one with a I-6 or V-8. I wonder how much it would be to import, besides all the US safety constraints?
