WranglerWrangler Unlimited Reports from Winding Road Blog

The lucky staff over at Winding Road has had a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to play around with the last few months, and periodically, they post their thoughts on the vehicle. Here's some quotes from the latest round:

The ride is, well, Jeep-like, which is to say, agricultural. It is nervous, busy, even on relatively smooth pavements. On bad expansion strips and frost heaves it does toss one around inside the seat belts. It never seems to calm down. This will only bother poseurs, however. Real Jeep people would worry if it was smooth and comfortable.

I’ve gotten pretty comfortable taking fast corners in big SUVs that have become more car-like in their handling over the years, but not so with the Wrangler. I respect the Jeep, and I lower my speed significantly when I’m behind the wheel. Seventy or so on the expressway doesn’t feel unsafe, but I’m not about to push it much faster than that.

It's like reading the review of a food critic for beer or wine... "After half a dozen samples, I felt light-headed?"
I too doubt this writer has any trail cred.
And he probably bought a GPS based on it's Bluetooth and MP3 capabilitites too.

Re: Wrangler Unlimited Reports from Winding Road Blog
When we test drove a JK Unlimited, my wife and were both impressed at how 'civil' the ride and handling were. It's not Grand Cherokee good, but still quite good none the less. However, we're also accustomed to the ride and handling of our lifted Jeeps on 35" tires, and our 1-ton diesel truck, also on 35" tires. I'm guessing the folks at WindingRoad are more accustomed to sedans and crossovers.

The editor-in-chief's comments are laughable, and makes me seriously doubt his claims that he 1) has owned a CJ7 and 2) has run the Rubicon trail.

When the TJ first came out I decided to take a look. The salesman walked up and prodly said "It rides like a car!" I thanked him for his honesty, turned around and left.
