What you mean IF Chrysler is bought by a foreign company? What the hell was Daimler?

You guys that get hung up on foreign companies need to care more about the product and keeping whatever jobs we can by not letting it go bust.

What's sad is US auto companies were run so badly for so long they are in the position to be bought out by a what used to be smaller companies not that they are foreign.

If people cared more about competence than jingoistic crap the big three wouldn't be in the position they are right now.

I go out of my way to buy products made in America. Is that bad? Although jobs and the end product are important, so is keeping an American owned manufacturing base in this country. Pretty soon our military equipment will be imported from China. I think the presidents helicopter is now foreign made. Personally I find this idiotic.

As for Jeep/Chrysler. Chysler vehicles are in bad shape. I get a loaner when I bring my Grand Cherokee (which I love) for service. Usually a PT Cruiser or older liberty or sebring or whatever. I have to say the lower end Chrysler vehicles are just plain CHEAP on the inside. Cheap plastic as far as the eye can see.

Compare the Chevy Malibu to the Chrysler Sebring.

I mean, Dodge has the beautiful Challenger, but its a niche vehicle.

I think Chrysler/Cerberus is in big trouble. Jeep will survive due to its strength, but in what form? I dont know...

I sense that Cerberus will cut there losses soon. The hiring of a lawyer yesterday to prepare for chapter 11 is there way of firing a warning shot to congress and the rest of the auto industry that they WILL bring everyone down if they dont get there bailout. They dont have to worry about shareholders and have already lost there money on the purchase, so they dont care.

Is buying American bad? Generally no. But if that's the only reason you are buying something and others do the same thing even when the product is crap it doesn't help anyone in the end.

I grew up with everyone driving crappy American cars in the 80's and 90's in Detroit just because they were American. Besides the fact the the cars sucked it somehow propagated up to the designers that these are the cars people actually wanted to drive and reinforced this ridiculous engineering notion that Americans only want big poor handling vanilla looking pieces of milquetoast. "Buy American" when it comes to cars has only helped keep all of Detroit in a bubble that pops only briefly before someone sticks the wand back in the soap and starts blowing again immediately.

If they were forced by reality back then by people not just roboticly buying there cars they might not be in the position they are today. Not just because they would have stopped building such crappy cars and lost so much market share. But also they would have had a chance to break out of the bubble for good and actually build cars that fill niches for real people and create demand for their product instead of some lowest common denominator design ethos propped up by well meaning but overly accepting "buy American" crowd.

there is one thing you are forgetting about even if chyrsler let a foriegn company buy them that company would cut out half the product plants and dealerships would close so no matter what people are going to lose their jobs and as soon as chysler was bought by a foriegn car brand the economy would not see any of that money the big three must stay american and must get bailed out they just need to cut some of the factory workers wages and beifits they are payed way to much as is

Your misguided. If plants are going to close or models dropped it's going to happen anyway even with the bailout. Why you think that's going to be peachy keen as long as some foreign company doesn't buy anything is beyond me.

If one of the big three bought another big three company the plant closings would be even worse then if a foreign company bought them.

What you really want is an American entity to keep owning the big three that will keep everything the way it is whether it makes any financial sense to do. Good luck.

Nice. Well at least I know you are pretty much not thinking about anything before you type. The CEO's and upper management are the only one's who make any real money off of making cars. You think the CEO of GM put's anything back into our economy? Get real. If the cars are built and designed here in the states they provide a lot of jobs to our economy. Doesn't matter that much whether the jillion Dollar CEO Mansion is in MI or Japan. Just matters wher most of the engineers and factories and parts suppliers are.

I said US cars in the 80's and 90's sucked not today. They make some good things now and ironically I think Toyota is slipping and becoming very GM like but that's another topic. If you dispute the legacy of crappy US cars you are ill informed and disillusional.

I haven't been able to replace my XJ because Jeep doesn't make anything I want yet and over time my needs keep shifting away from a Wrangler. So after owning three Jeeps in a row I just wait and hope...well more waiting than hoping lately.

well im sorry i dont think the same way you do maybee its cause i work for a chrysler dealership and right now my job is affected by everything that is going on right now so if i have said something that offended you how dare you o and by the way i wasnt old enough to drive in the 80's so sorry to disapoint you and i also sorry i did do a 12 page research paper before i posted but if you are not that concerned about what will happen if somone else gets chrysler maybee you havent read that for expamle if GM would have bought chrysler they would have kept the wrangler, patriot, charger, town and country, and ram so let me ask you this do you think chrysler would cut that much of their product out of the picture no and then we wouldnt see all the great cars that are coming out in 2010 o and by the way i didnt start in insults you did i was just stating my opinion so whatever

If any more of them go down my companies whole division in MI will cease to exist and I will have to go out on the road and be gone for weeks at a time driving a truck to make a living because MI's economy sucks.
