Several weeks ago we reported that one of the new features of the all new 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was a new programmable overhead console. One of our sources has recently filled us in on some of the details of this new console.
The current overhead console has only a couple functions including trip odometer, trip elapsed time, compass, exterior temperature sensor and fuel economy meter. According to our source, the new console will offer many customization features.
To begin with, the new console will save each driver's preferences, including seat position, radio, and mirror settings. It will also include settings for the horn, metric/english units, low fuel chimes, the ability for the headlights to come on when the wipers turn on. Finally, we hear that the new console will link the remote entry system with some of these functions, including the ability to lock/unlock one or all of the doors, and the driver preferences.
