Autoblog has a story on a Liberty-based truck one-off from Beijing Auto Works.
It seems that at some point, they considered building the pickup, but then cooler heads prevailed. They recently gave their concept to the China Military Museum.

![]() I actually like it...too bad Bush/Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Tri-Lateral Council on Forigen Affairs killed the small pickup truck market with the 'Footprint' standard that rewards supersize SUV's like the Hummer and Excursion (which ironicaly are no longer being produced in spite of the mileage break), but penalizes small suv's and pickup trucks when they have the potential of getting better mileage.
The Jury is still out on wheteher this rule will help or hurt the chanced of a JT Pickup. The future of Jeep is PiHV with Wheel-Mounted motors...The fuel mileage would be so high that the designers would be totally un-impeded by the 35 mpg CAFE mileage requirements...Heck, they could make a CJ-2a Retro Jeep and as a PiHV, the government could not tell Chrysler what to do or how many they could build at least in terms of fuel mileage. |
