SalesJeep Sales Continue to Suck
Posted by mike on 2006/8/2 13:52:01 (1655) reads

(from a DaimlerChrysler press release)

Sales of Jeep(R) brand vehicles declined 34 percent to 35,831 units. Previous year sales totaled 56,280 units. The Jeep Compass posted brisk sales of 707 units despite a late July availability. Vehicles are still arriving at dealerships nationwide, and response to the vehicle from customers and dealers has been positive.

The Chrysler Group product offensive continues with the imminent arrival of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the Jeep Wrangler in the next few weeks, along with the Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Nitro following this fall.

 Compass wont help.
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060802/AUTO03/608020302/1149

The panel not only hated the newest Jeep, they expressed concern that the car-like vehicle -- which the Chrysler Group describes as a "breakthrough" product -- was pointing the brand in the wrong direction.

Detroit architect Andrew Hetletvedt, 32, castigated the Compass for "unnecessary sissy-ness" and said that while Jeep is "one of the strongest names in American motoring," the Compass was "spiritually wrong."

 Re: Compass wont help.
I am not completely opposed to the idea of the Compass, I am opposed to it's execution.

The vehicle should be equipped to go head to head with another ugly little car, the Suburu WRX.

4WD should be standard / low range optional.

The engine should be turbocharged.

The design should be more aggressive (like the original Compass concept vehicle (not the Frankfurt one)).

The suspension should be heavy-duty,capable of taking a few jumps instead of being geared for street driving.

It should be marketed to active young people not specificly to urban/suburban markets.

The advertisements should show the Compass tearing through the desert instead of cruising along a city street.

Re: Jeep Sales Continue to Suck
1.) General downward turn in the auto industry
2.) Lack of highly fuel-efficient engine choices
3.) TJ production ceased
4.) Many potential Grand Cherokee owners going with the Commander instead
5.) Many potential Liberty owners and some potential Grand Cherokee owners waiting for the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited.

...As he so often does...

If Wrangler Unlimiteds and Wranglers are going to begin arriving in a few weeks, show us an official price list. I want to order mine soon, but they won't let me order one with specific options until the price list is official.

phishjeep, that is interesting they won't let you order one.

My dealer let me order a 2007 Commander and the price didn't become available until last week (while the Jeep was right in the middle of the production line). It ships out of the factory on Monday... can't wait.

Re: Jeep Sales Continue to Suck
Well, I want to pick my options and have it built exactly as I want it. The orders they are taking now are Manual Rubicon or AT Sahara. They aren't letting people fully customize the order with colors (unless they don't care which model) and options until the firm price list is available.

Also, thanks to the person who posted the prices. I did see them before, but as they aren't official, the dealerships near me don't acknoledge them. Also, the list is very barebones. The options aren't priced yet. I'm interested in the HD/DVD radio, but I don't know how interested I am.

Also, since I don't know if I prefer the 2D or 4D, and a few colors I am interested in seeing first hand, I think I have to wait. Plus, wasn't there something about late availability on the Rubicon or the radio or something?
