CherokeeExpanded Jeep Recall, Jeep Summer Clearance
Posted by mike on 2000/7/13 23:00:00 (1062) reads

We saw a snippet yesterday on Yahoo News that DaimlerChrysler expanded a previous recall involving corroded front disc brake rotors to include Jeep Cherokee sport utilities of model years 1996-1999 and 1996-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees. If anyone has any further information on this recall, please post it using the Reader Reaction link at the end of this article.

If you're in the market for a new Jeep, now is a good time to make a purchase, as the Jeep Summer Clearance is underway. Get 5.9% APR financing when you purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo or, if you're a returning lessee, up to $3000 consumer lease cash, $1000 loyalty lease cash, and $500 in package values for total value savings of $4500. On Jeep Cherokee Sport, get 5.9%* APR financing if you buy or, if you're a returning lessee, up to $2000 consumer lease cash and $1000 loyalty lease cash, for total value savings of $3000. Either way, you can get air, remote keyless entry, and power windows & locks at no extra charge. Jeep Wrangler buyers get an automatic transmission at no extra charge on Sport and Sahara models. See your local Jeep dealer today for complete details. (we left out all the fine print, but trust us, there's a bunch!)

One last thing - if anyone was able to catch the Camp Jeep chat on jeepunpaved.com yesterday, let us know how it went!

I own a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's been nothing but a headache. I've replaced my rotors six times, replaced the calipers, and replaced the fuel tank. I will never purchase a Jeep again. Everyone that I know who owns a Jeep Grand Cherokee has had similar problems.

here is my comment: I purchased a 2000 jeep cherokee in Jan.2000 and recently had an accident because it accelerated on its own and the brakes did not react as they should have. My brake peddle drops while constant pressure is being applied. Could this brake problem be because of this recall even though my jeep is a 2000 , I'm sure it was built in 1999 seeing how I purchased it the beginning of Jan.2000.

I would like to find out if my 1997 Sahara is included in this recall. My dealer replaced the front brakes in December of 1999; now the calipers have locked up, causing damage to the entire braking system. Dealer claims it is due to contaminated brake fluid. Chrysler will not honor extended warranty. Anybody else having this problem? Thanks!

I Took My '96 Grand Cherokee In For A Tune Up At The Dealer
& Told Them To Look Up Any Recalls. They Found The Frt Rotors
Needed To Be Replaced W/ Stainless Rotors ! No Charge! I Think Its A Good Time To Replace The Pads Now!

I have a 98 cherokee sport and I've been having problems with my rotors warping approx. every 3k miles. After 4 tries, it now seems to be resolved by a TSB from Chrysler regarding the semi-metallic brake pads. But now I wonder if it's the rotors. I have not received a recall notice yet.

Jeez, you'd think after 16 years jeep engineers could figure out how to build brakes!
