The official Jeep web site, Jeep.com has been updated with official information about the 2007 Wrangler and Compass.
The Compass area of the web site seems to marketing the Compass as a versitile, fun-to-drive vehicle. In additional to the expected sections (safety, utility, value, photo gallery, etc...), there is also an audio tour of the Compass.
One of the new things we learned about the Compass is its high-end audio option: a 458-watt Boston Acoustics Premium Sound System that comes with swing-down tailgate speakers - handy for tailgate parties! Plus, it comes with an auxiliary input jack for connecting your iPod to.
The 2007 Wrangler area of the site has some great graphics, and comes with the tagline: "Redesigned. Ready to Rock." The site is organized the same way at the 2007 Compass site. One feature of the Wrangler that caught our eye was the option of a Sunrider™ top (instead of the modular hard top). The Sunrider™ soft top, which includes a "sun roof" feature in addition to the full top-down option. This soft top provides a second open-air option by folding the soft top back completely over the driver and front passenger to create a 52x30-inch sun roof opening — larger than any typical glass sun roof.

![]() Mike mentions the fact that the Compass is to have a "a 458-watt Boston Acoustics Premium Sound System" but in looking through the '07 Wrangler pages I notice that it too will have a "456 watt Infinity system" available, most likely the same system....sounds sweet. I imagine that the iPod integration anouncement recently made by DCX will also include the Wrangler and Compass. DCX does mention that the system will be optional for '07 and that the iPod integration from the factory will permit users to completely control a remotely connected iPod via the factory head unit, and possibly via steering wheel controls.
I also looked through the Compass site too, but I still can't get past the ugly styling of this little sucker. Is it me or is this possibly the ugliest vehicle to wear a Jeep badge? That front bumper design is hideous and the fenders are awkwardly flared as well. Maybe bigger wheels and tires are indeed needed and might help a tad. But that bumper man, oh man....simply nauseating. |

![]() The SunRider top is nothing new. It is the soft top design, produced by BestTop, that is currently used in the 2005 Wrangler Unlimited.
I am loving the new Wrangler! Between the Wrangler, and the Commander, and the Blutech Grand Cherokee... too many choices! I think the Compass would look a little better if it gained some more substantial (wider / higher profile) tires. |
