MotorTrend has a fantastic video about the Jeep JT concept vehicle. They got a chance to take it for a quick test drive and talk to one of the guys behind it. For anyone who is interested in a Jeep-based pickup, this is a must-see.

An excellent point: this vehicle will far outsell the Compass (and probably the Patriot). More than that, I don't think it would affect the sales of the two Wranglers (since it's a two-seater).

Can we get on with it, Jeep?

I like it.....even though it's not a Gladiator. Bed's a tad smallish but I'd probably be willing to bite on it and buy one if it's built. I've been wanting an "updated Scrambler" type vehicle for a long time now. Jeep needs to stop toying with us or just build the frigging small truck again (and not a re-badged Dakota}. At this point I'm sick of their indecisiveness on this issue.

It truly is a "no-brainer"....so why wouldn't the folks at Jeep not want to build this vehicle? It'll be low cost to implement and I can promise that it will drastically out sell the Compass. To date I've only seen a Compass on the road on only 3 different occasions...it clearly does not sell well. Replace the Compass with this rig.

So enough with the TEASER campaign, let's get moving and build the JT. This will put the Hummer folks even farther behind.. When can we place an order, that is the real question....

The JT as well as a 4 door utilitarian version of the JK (named J8) are underway here @ the Jeep plant outside of Cairo / Egypt . They will sport a Dana 60 rearend & leafsprings in the rear & a diesel engine among other mods. They will be ready in March '08.
But don't envy us just yet.... They will only be available for military & government entities.
After trying to pry some information from the production team... I was told that a probable civilian release will be end of '08.

 Re: In-depth JT Video
Just a guess, but I wonder if JEEP is so giddy (being backlogged) with JK orders that they are not yet willing to commit to the extra production capacity (& start-up costs --which should be meager) necessary to make some JT's?

Maybe they're waiting for the initial swell of JK orders to subside, before they commit to variants... especially since JEEP may be figuring most JT buyers are also would-be JK buyers, and would cannibalize some JK sales. I dunno... just playing Devil's Addvocate.

If JEEP adds the JT, I would think total sales would certainly INCREASE, because they'd sell more overall. Well, maybe we just have to wait for the JK orders to take a dip or the inevitable slide... but starting at over 100,000 units/year makes for a long slow slide... so it seems like JEEP's in a great position to (eventually) add some JK variants to keep sales afloat.

Love that video.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own Jeep community that it's hard to see beyond that. Once you realize it, you worry if the things we think of as "no-brainers" really are or if we have a skewed perspective (which we probably do anyway but I digress...).

It's a relief to see something like this where you have someone like Motortrend who doesn't have a bias (theoretically) who echoes our sentiments.

Now build it, JEEP!!!

MotorTrend says it's a "no brainer". There's a ton of people here and at other Jeep forums who would put down a deposit the day the official announcement is made.

So why won't Jeep just make the thing?!?!?

I would rather buy the Gladiator for sure because the bed size is a little inpractical for me,...... But i would certainly buy this thing as soon as it came out,....... as long as there was no Gladiator in the horizon.
