Miscellaneous10 Years of Camp Jeep

Over 63,000 people have enjoyed Camp Jeep since 1994

Camp Jeep, the annual summertime gathering of Jeep® enthusiasts, returns to the Oak Ridge Estate in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Nelson County, Virginia, from July 15-17. This summer marks the 10th anniversary of Camp Jeep.

With more than 10,000 anticipated participants – the most ever in the 10-year history of Camp Jeep - and 2,450 vehicles registered, the event offers individuals an opportunity to brush up on their off-road techniques and celebrate “Jeep Pride.”

“Camp Jeep has been so successful and attracted so many participants over the past 10 years because it allows families from all over to gather and celebrate the utility and versatility of their Jeep products,” said Jeff Bell, Vice President – Jeep.

One of the most popular highlights of the event is Jeep 101, a series of specially constructed courses designed to teach off-highway driving, safety skills and demonstrate the Trail Rated™ capabilities of the Jeep Wrangler, Liberty and Grand Cherokee. Participants are paired with experienced guides as they navigate steep grades and tackle challenges, such as large rocks, log crossings, sand and other off-highway obstacles. Once they master Jeep capabilities, they have a chance to navigate various levels of 4x4 trails in their own Jeep vehicles.

The die-hard Jeep owner can also visit the Engineering Village and participate in roundtable discussions with Jeep engineers to learn more about their vehicle’s design and capabilities.

Jeep Jubilee, the grand finale of Camp Jeep held on Saturday night, will feature live musical performances by Michelle Branch and Nickel Creek followed by a fireworks spectacular.

For the first time in 10 years, Camp Jeep will run a second summer session. Camp Jeep California is August 19-21 in the San Ynez Mountains near Santa Barbara, California.

Camp Jeep is one of several owner-loyalty programs created by the Jeep division of Chrysler Group. Jeep Jamborees, which began in the 1950s, are the original off-highway vacation. From the Maine Mountains to the famed Rubicon Trail, approximately 7,000 owners participate in the more than 30 Jamborees held each year. The excellent response to Camp Jeep led to the spin-off of Jeep 101. Jeep 101 driving courses are offered in cities across the nation to provide owners and prospective owners basic skills of safe, yet adventurous off-road driving.

Freedom, adventure, mastery, authenticity and the capability to go anywhere are the hallmarks of the Jeep brand worldwide. Jeep brand sales are up 12 percent year-over-year in 2004 in the U.S., with four new models being introduced this year.

In regards to the location of Camp Jeep, I remember talking to the DC corporate boys at CJ a few years back and they said one of the reasons for the East coast location was because a majority of their SUV sales were East of the Mississippi.

My husband and I have attended Camp Jeep in 2001, 2002 and 2003. This year's Camp Jeep just wasn't as spectacular as we had hoped. Last year's entertainment was way better - why couldn't DC have gotten a national act? The giveaways were less than amazing... and only one Jeep store? It just seemed like the organization fell flat this year compared to previous. It also seemed like DC missed out on opportunies to generate positive buzz and make us happy.
Two things that were great: the engineers to answer questions and give help at the Service Barn, and the AWESOME Trail Guides.

This was the second year at camp jeep both time i'e been a trail guide to to those of you who have give use great reviews it means alot to us. The Camp side did seem a little pitiful this year and i didn't bother with the concert sat night but the fireworks put many many 4th of july shows to shame.those that i know were at the 02 camp jeep in branson did say the camp was great but the trail rides were disapointing an un organized. unfourtunatly as guides we can do much about the camp side but we do every thing we can for the trail rides and hopefully we can do it all again next year and see if we can make the trail riedes even better.

We have been to the last three Camp Jeeps. The trails have been great in Virginia, but Jeep has gone cheap. We definitly received more free stuff at the Camp Jeep in Branson, they had more things to do and the concert was better! As far as having two this year we think they should stick to having one a year and concentrate on making all those attend happy. They should also move it around more. Maybe one year on the East coast, the next year in the Middle and the next on the West. We won't mind traveling.

Why in the hell would they do that?

They are holding one on the Eastern side of the U.S.... and another one on the Western side of the U.S.

Those in the middle will have to pick... east or west.

Some people just can't be satisfied.

For those who can't attend Camp Jeep because of the distance... there are always the Jeep Jamborees or independant off-roading events.

This was our first & last Camp Jeep. Our 2003 Liberty Renegade towed our 1977 CJ-7 13 for 14 miles (RT), and it was a great disappointment. Nelson County was wonderful and we enjoyed much that the area had to offer on our own, but I'm not sure what CD-Jeep did with the money. The VIP was an absolute joke. The Guides were terrific. The organization of the event was lousy. Perhaps early registration could occur the day before? I felt badly for those who didn't show on the first day, because there was nothing available for anyone to participate in. You stood in line to sign up for everything. That should have been done when we all registered this past winter...of course the company hanbdling that deleted almost everyone's reservations including ours - TWICE!
We took each vehicle out on the trails - on our own & 1 each camp event. The Libby & every other one out there that had the balls to get out on the courses performed quite well. I'm looking forward to my first lift and tires for x-mas. I'm hooked...Silly boys, Jeeps are for Girls! - Ask Rubicon Barbie! Unfortunately for Jeep - our money is going to the aftermarket suppliers & a local 4X4 organization from here out.

DCG,

I was not able to go to Camp Jeep this year, so was there any good rumors or info? Did Jeep show off the Rubicon version of the Unlimited? At one of the DCX events a few weeks ago, someone said they saw the Rubi Unlimited, with a 6 speed manual...

Why can't DC concentrate on keeping it simple?..Enough of the "family" stuff...already! Most of the Jeepers I know are SINGLE..and happy that way..There should be more emphasis on us SINGLE JEEPERS...you know free-spirited independent thinkers..*hums Freebird..The Homogenization of the JEEP Wrangler by "The Family Type"..is just purely hogwash...Some of these people think going offroad is a 1hr jaunt to chuck e cheese through the sand collected by the edge of the road..LOL..And as far at having Camp Jeep in 1 or 2 locales...Each region should have it..and it's your choice to travel to each if you want..6 regions in USA,no? And another thing..Keep the cost under $100. for the participants...LOL we only live on 1 income....

We just returned from our 6th in a row Camp Jeep.
There were some things to complain about but, overall it was GREAT! It is a family event and should stay that way. There isn't a better event on the planet.

If I remember correctly a year or two ago they tried to have a West coast Camp Jeep but cancelled it early on because of poor interest. I have been to two camp Jeeps, one in Branson and one the one last year in the Blue Ridge mountains.
We live in Illinois so the Branson trip was one day and the Blue Ridge trip was two. We choose not to go this year not because of the distance but because I would rather it move around so we can see different parts of the country. The west coast was too far for us, but if they had it in somewhere in between, say in Colorado we would have gone. I guess what I am saying is I would drive a couple of days for the three day event.
Looking back over the last ten years they have moved it around the country and I am sure they will do it again.

Lets make everyone happy and have 3 camp jeeps. Let the costs keep theirs cuz they are just to darn far for people to go to as a short trip. Branson had more than the east coast, maybe they will wise up again and place one in the middle. I doubt it but heck it usually moves every 2 years so it will be interesting to see if they have it AGAIN at the same location for 3 years straight.........

Not going to happen.

By placing the events on the East and West coasts, DC guarantees that a majority of the Jeep population can attend one of the events.

By placing it in the middle of the country, you pretty much limit participation to people living in the middle section of the country.

Considering the majority of the United States population lives within a days drive of the East Coast... and/or a days drive of the West coast... it makes sense for them to hold the events at the locations they have chosen.

So those in the midwest will just have to suck it up and deal with it.

I couldn't agree more about bringing it back to the middle. Both coasts are too far to travel, two full days of travel for a couple of days of fun just doesn't work. I have tried to let DC know but it is falling on deaf ears. How about the coasts on even years and the middle odd years? That will give everyone a shot every other year. We have been to two, Vail and Branson. Had a blast but now am stuck just going to Jamborees. Everyone in Central US let DC know.
