SalesChrysler to Dump Three Slow-Sellers - Commander May Be the Fourth
Posted by Anonymous on 2007/10/31 6:59:50 (2032) reads

We've been hearing rumors over the past couple of months since the un-merger that new Chrysler LLC CEO Bob Nardelli is chomping at the bit to pare down the Chyrsler lineup. Well, yesterday the Detroit News reported that the Pacifica, PT Cruiser, and Magnum would be the first three to get the hook.

The article then went on to speculate at what the fourth vehicle to get axed might be...

The company also may cut its Jeep Commander full-size SUV. Its sales are down 23 percent this year.

Chrysler spokesman Mike Aberlich declined to comment on any plans by the board to slash products. Industry observers, however, were not surprised to learn that Nardelli is eager to downsize Chrysler's lineup.

The Commander will have an execusion come 2010. These vehicles will be killed after 2008 models. That is why they didn't kill it now.

Today, Chrysler voted to kill the PT, Magnum, Pacifica, and Crossfire.

It was only the PT Convertible that got canned, not the PT as a whole.

I also like the look of the Commander over the Grand but, I guess if one has to go the Grand has a longer and better history. I am still suprised the PT is getting axed. I know it's long in the tooth but, it does have one of Chryslers best owner loyality. I don't know why they can't drop the Compass and bring a new PT based on the Compass/Caliber platform to market.

maybe it's just me, but the commander is a better looking Jeep than the Grand Cherokee. Maybe I like the squared off look?

Put in the 3.0 CRD and maybe it will sell more?

I like the size and look of the Commander the best, too. But with the 4-door Wrangler, Jeep now has five station wagons in the line, six if you consider the Compass a wagon. I can see why under-new-management is looking at making cuts. But a pickup would be a great addition to the line if one of the current models (hopefully the Compass) is cut.
