Liberty2008 Liberty Spy Shots
Posted by mike on 2006/8/11 7:07:54 (1740) reads

The fine folks over at wkjeeps.com have done it again - they recently posted some spy shots of the 2008 Jeep Liberty.

They have a total of 4 photos of the lightly-disguised Liberty, all taken while the vehicle was out for a test drive on I-75 in Michigan.

According to the site, the 2008 Liberty will have features such as, "Hill Descent Control, the new RER touch-screen navigation/media radio, a Load ’n Go rear cargo slide out system, Electronic Stability Program with Electronic Roll Mitigation and Sirius Satellite Streaming Video."

Check out the photos and the rest of the article.

Bkcurtis, read a magazine now and then sport and you will find that the caliber and compass share many, many components. I am looking for Jeep to cater to the customers who were drawn to them for their four wheel drive ability. Jeep seems to be selling out simply to gain a few customers. Customers from who? Dodge, Chrysler? Platform sharing is one thing, but to sell out as a brand is tough to swallow. I have owned three wranglers and a grand cherokee. Happy with all. The way Jeep is heading, I am unsure as to the styling. FUGLY comes to mind!

First off, I'm not a fan of the Compass, but I think Jeep needs to expand its line to include this segment. I'm partial to the XJ styling (Patriot) since I drive a 98 with 228,000 miles and my wife drives a 03 JGC.

Of course the Compass and Caliber share many of the same components; they're from the same platform! Heck, they even share the first letter of their name (hidden conspiracy?).

All magazine articles and internet sites I have visited since the Compass was announced have indicated that it is more capable off-road than the Caliber. While they share many of the underpinnings, it obviously has different skin and a more advanced four wheel drive system than the Caliber.

. . . and once again, I say, that Jeep has a long and rich history of 2 WD vehicles which were not designed to be off road warriors.

As a Jeep loyalist, I guess I will have to agree to disagree with you.

Jeep should stick with the three that help to earn its reputation. 1. Bring back the cherokee
2. Release the new wrangler 3. Continue with the grand

The Liberty has sucked from day 1, and the Commander if done properly would have been able to emulate the sucess of the Wagoneer, but we all know how that worked out, and the Nitro is essentially a replacement NEON. Give me a brake!

Well, as most Jeep lovers realize, the Cherokee in its previous form will NOT be brought back. It seems this latest Liberty generation will be what the orignal Cherokee replacement should have been.

There are some front end styling cues from the Jeep rescue--the front bumper jutting outward. The boxiness is a throwback to the Cherokee. The back end looks, to me, like a miniture Commander.

Jeep needs to evolve if it wants to stay competitive in the marketplace. ANY company that stays stagnant is eventually doomed to failure.

No, the Nitro is NOT a Neon replacement. That is what the Caliber is. Actually, the Nitro is an awesom looking vehicle.

I know that the liberty and nitro are to be built from the same frame, but from the looks of the first picture, it seems like the only noticable difference in the two is the brand name, otherwise they are pretty identical looking, well done jeep, looks terrible...and isnt even original.

DCX has intentionally put the Dodge cross hairs on the masking to confuse nosey people.

The new Liberty appears to have many design cues from the Commander.

There is no way you could say they made the Liberty any uglier as you won't know what it really looks like until the camo starts coming off.

Wow! They actually managed to make the Liberty Uglier! Didn't think it was possible.

What are you guys talking about? I think the Nitro is pretty cool looking actually and according to most consumers, the Liberty now is pretty soft looking.

Also, the pictures are poor and you can't even really see it.

I'll have to take your word for it, as I lack your ability to see through the camo.
