We recently received our Jeep Customer One magazine (Winter 99) in the mail - we were happy to see an article about the Jeep Commander!
Both the pictures and the text shown here is from this article.
The newest Jeep concept vehicle combines the appeal of an upscale sport-utility with the industry's most advanced powertrain, for a gem that will satisfy Jeep traditionalists while aiding the environment by burning less fuel, lowering emissions and using recyclable body materials.

Jeep Commander uses advanced fuel cell technology. Jeep designers helped to compensate for the power train's extra weight by using injection molded plastic for the body panels, thus decreasing body weight by up to 40 percent. In addition, the material is nearly 100-percent recyclable and saves 10-50 percent of the manufacturing costs.
Although it's more than seven inches wider than a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Commander offers ground clearance that is two inches lower. However, Commander can be raised four inches for off-roading, similar to last year's Jeep Jeepster concept vehicle.
