Grand Cherokee2009 and 2010 Jeep Model Information
Posted by MarkH on 2008/7/25 6:28:27 (2653) reads

wkjeeps has long been a reliable source for future Jeep information - mainly in the form of production details and vehicle options.

They're currently reporting that production for the 2009 Grand Cherokee and Commander (its last year) will begin August 11, 2008. Neither model will have any large changes this year.

Liberty, Patriot, and Wrangler production began July 21, 2008 - again, no major changes to the lineup.

The 2010 Grand Cherokee will be the final year for the current generation, as 2011 will bring an all-new Grand Cherokee with the new "Phoenix" series engine.

PZEV is a CARB designation that means a car's emissions are equal to or less than than those of an electric car, when you factor in the emmissions from the power plant to charge an electric. A number of current cars meet PZEV requirements, including the Ford Focus.

No, it can be read either way...

"Same engine/powertrain options as 2008 except for new PZEV version of the 2.4 engine (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) "

PZEV could mean Hybrid, or PZEV could mean low, low emissions...It could be read that PZEV is a new engine, or a optional engine...either way, it's not what America needs if it's not a Hybrid.

My only dissapointment is that if Jeep were going to build a Hybrid, they are not working on the Wrangler and the Liberty for a Hybrid Version.

Based on our recent gas crunch which is just beginning to come down, I'd argue the need for a Hybrid version of something or everything in the Jeep Lineup.

As far as 4.7L and 5.7L Wranglers, I wouldn't count on it...Gas just doesn't make enough torque AND get decent economy in a heavy vehicle like the Wrangler.

Your best bet is the 4.7L Cummins V-6 Diesel for power and economy...Remember, the 4-door Wrangler will probably have to get around 28 m.p.g., the 2 door closer to 30 with the new SUV Mileage standards....The 4.7L diesel will still need some sort of hybrid system to meet that goal...A Hemi couldn't get that closein an SUV, even with Hamster boost.

I think everybody missed the BIGGER piece of information on the WKJEEPS site, availability of a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) 2.4 Liter engine for the Patriot. I do believe that means some sort of Hybrid...

It's not a Version of the Willys or ICON concept, but, hey, it's a start.

The big question is, does PZEV mean a simply start-stop hybrid like the Saturn VUE, or is it some sort of Plug in Hybrid like the Renegade Concept?

...or ignored it...

While some wait for ULSD turbodiesels & nextgen hybrids, some of us are still waiting for the (now improbable) 305HP 4.7L or (now impossible) 370HP 5.7L to be put in the JKs.

Well, if the JK were to get a hybrid whiz-bang PZEV that puts out 300+HP & 300+ft-lbs, I guess I'd be forced to consider it... for the sake of my carbon footprint, of course!

PZEV just means it has zero evaporative emissions not that it can run part time with out an internal combustion engine.

I believe myhotwheel's question was rhetorical...

...but, it's a safe bet the "new" MY09 2.4L PZEV powerplant will be a non-hybrid...

I wonder how different the 2011 Grand Cherokee will be? Ford just announced the new Explorer is to be built on a unibody platform, the Chevy Trailblazer is being dropped. Mid-size body on frame SUVs sales have been tanking. I wonder if the Grand Cherokee will hang on to it's roots or will they change it like the rest.
I would say if they can improve the gas milage a bunch people will still buy it.

Are you aware that the Grand Cherokee, in all of its incarnations over the last 15 years, has been a unibody? The XJ Cherokee that preceded it was a unibody vehicle. The Liberty has also been a unibody vehicle for its whole production run. The Commander that inspired your screen name is also a unibody. The only modern Jeep that is still body-on-frame is the Wrangler.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just seeing if you're aware that your comment doesn't make a ton of sense.

The new colors deep water blue and sunburst orange are on the 2009 JK...No rumor

Replacing Steel blue and rescue green as the first post indicated.

Hybrid in a wrangler makes no sense at all....Rumor

Crd 4 banger by 2010 is a strong rumor,expect to see a pre-roduction prototype at EJS 2009
