J.D. Power and Associates recently released their 2007 dependability report. This year's report looks at 2004 models and their dependability over the past 3 years.

With 219 problems reported per 100 vehicles, Jeep® was Chrysler's highest rated brand, climbing from 26th in rank to 15th, according to Chrysler LLC.

The Chrysler brand as a whole climbed 8% - better than the 5% average for all brands.

The best rated were Buick & Lexus at 145 "problems" per 100 vehicles. The difference between 1.45 PPV and 2.19 PPV is not perceptible by an individual owner, and it is not validated nor refuted by anecdotal experience.

These are simply averages representing large populations of vehicles. The numbers are more important and more applicable to OEMs, who have to pay for warranty repairs. To an individual, an extra 0.74 problems has little significance.

The important issue the consumer should glean is that the average quality, safety, performance, and expected lifespan of vehicles has improved dramatically since the 80's & 90's.

J.D. Power must be on crack. My 2001 Wrangler (hope I don't jinx myself) has been the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. I took it to the dealer twice for problems since I bought it. Once was because a squirrel had made a nest under the hood on the lot and chewed through a couple wires and the second time was for a leaky axle seal. It still has the same battery in it, 7 + years old now.

I wonder if J.D. power includes problems caused by inproper modifications, Jeepers do like to mess with their Jeeps and not everyone does them right.

My Jeep 02TJ has had zero problems. Just now hitting 60,000 miles. I too would like to see where these 200 and some problems per 100 vehicles are coming from. Maybe the stat included dealer oil changes? We have an 88XJ 190,000 miles! Sorry i'm off topic, article was 04 models.

219 problems per 100 vehicles= 2.19 problems per vehicle. 2 problems for your jeep is pretty much average.
