From the "we are unable to stop beating this dead horse" department, CarWash.com (yes, we love that URL) has named the "Runaway Jeeps" their #2 story for 2006, narrowly beaten out by a story about some large car wash operator being sold and employing illegal immigrants. Where's the sizzle in that story?
Anyway, here's a snippet:
In February, the carwash industry was shocked and saddened by the death of a customer at Splash Car Wash in Hamden, CT. The death, a result of sudden unintended acceleration by a Jeep Grand Cherokee, prompted the ICA to hold a special segment at the Car Care World Expo to discuss the matter, which has plagued the industry for over 10 years.
A DaimlerChrysler representative attended the meeting in order to aid discussions, but five months later, the company's vice president of communications, Jason Vines, lashed out against carwash owners and operators in an online blog, accusing them of not properly training or handling vehicles at their businesses.

![]() What idiots! I take my Commander through a drive-it-yourself touchless car wash every other time I drive it. I take my Cherokee through the same wash about every week or so. In no case did either Jeep run away on me.
Here is a clue... set your fat backend all the way in the vehicle (not with one leg hanging out) and drive the vehicle properly out of the carwash bay. I will get off my soapbox now. |
