Sales numbers for February were recently released and - get ready for it - the numbers actually so some improvement. Don't get me wrong, they're still in the toilet, but they just might be floating a little bit higher.
The big news is that Chrysler increased its U.S. market share by about 1.5% to 11%. The market share came mostly at the expense of GM.
The big news for the Jeep brand is that Wrangler sales are up a full 28% compared to February, 2008.

![]() I am one of the 9,088 that bought a wrangler in February. There were a number of factors involved in the decision:
1) There does not appear to be any chance that JEEP is going to put a v8 in the Wrangler within the next 10 years. So, there is no sense waiting any longer for one (basically this was the main factor in my decision ![]() 2) A 48 month loan, for the Wrangler, at 0.0 percent financing doesn’t happen that often. 3) The dealer offered me $2,000 more for my 2003 Rubicon then my research led me to believe I would get. 4) The dealer incentives totaled to around $3,500 which is a far larger discount then I have ever been offered for a Wrangler ![]() 5) If Chrysler were to go bankrupt, I really doubt the service would be much different then it is now (If the warranty turns out to be worthless, I guess I will just have to hope I don’t need it. It has never seemed to be of much value in the past anyway.) ![]() |

![]() Wranglers never ever ever have significant discounts. When I bought my Commander back in 07, the out the door price on it (as optioned out as a Sport gets) and on a stripped down JKL were the same. Last month Wranglers got real rebates and look what happened. Sales almost equaled the Liberty and GC COMBINED. I do wonder what's going to happen to Wrangler resale down the road. Right now you can buy a new 09 cheaper than one or two years used. That can't be the case for long. Some people who were counting on the Wrangler's legendary resale value are probably going to get burned.

![]() I will agree with trevorj, cancel the Dakota, and if the Gladiator is built, they will come.
The Liberty is a gem in the snow that is under-marketed. The Patriot's fuel efficiency hasn't been touted to it's full potential either. Build what's wanted, preference to orders. |

![]() Simple answer: SURVIVAL.
The Wrangler (and its direct ancestor CJs, etc.) are symbols of survivalism and an expression of being Spartan. We are in tough times. A Wrangler wrapped around you makes you feel very secure. Everyone got their waterproof matches & bottled water stowed in their bunkers? ![]() Don't forget to check those NBC resistant weatherseals around the doors! ![]() |
