The Toledo Blade is reporting that Toledo might not be the only assembly point for the Jeep Wrangler in the near future. DaimlerChrysler's Chinese partner, Chery Automobile Co. is gearing up to begin production on a small Chrysler vehicle that would be available for sale worldwide.
"That would actually be kind of a logical thing to do," said David Cole, an analyst with the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor.
"If I were Chery that would be quite a plum. One of the reason to do a small car deal would be if you could get access to some of Chrysler's other products, like the Wrangler. It would really not surprise me if those discussion were taking place. It would be very logical."

Jason Vines, a Chrysler Group spokesman, says that the whole thing is just "crazy speculation".

![]() does anyone know if/how I might get parts for the China Jeep2500? I have a comanche I've rebuilt using a complete 2001 cherokee, and would LOVE to have the 2500 front fenders, header panel, grill and headlights to add to it. It's on page 90 of the March 2007 issue of JP magazine. rfarrell@farrell.net

![]() Now, remember, the Wrangler JK could have been built in Mexico if they wouldn't have agreed to the supplier park. The YJ was built in Canada. The frame for the current Wrangler is built by Hyundai, a Korean company. Why, oh why Chrysler are you doing this? Just please don't build the Wrangler in another country again.

![]() I think the writer took some things out of context. If Chery was allowed to build Wranglers it would be for sale in Asia. This would be similar to Beijing Jeep's ability to produce the 2500 (XJ) and WJ for sale in Asia.
Jeep is not about to move production from their cutting edge multi-million plus $US Wrangler plant they worked so hard to get. |
