WranglerHummer H4 To Go After Wrangler

AutoWeek just posted an article about the future of the Hummer brand. Included in it is a blurb on the forthcoming H4 - said to be direct competitor to the Wrangler.

Sources say GM has given the green light to market a small SUV for the 2009 model year that will be similar in size to the Jeep Wrangler. Select members of the media have seen it and say it has striking styling that should jump-start the Hummer brand. The smaller, lower-priced SUV is needed to help Hummer become successful outside North America.

Unfortunately, we're not one of the "select members of the media" who have seen it - we're pretty sure we're at the bottom of that list. There is a photo of the H3T concept though - but it's not really all that interesting.

LeftLaneNews also has an article about the H4, but with the sheer number of facts that don't agree in the two articles, we're not sure if anyone really knows what they're talking about (except us, of course).
Martin Walsh, Hummer's General Manager, told dealers at the annual Hummer All-Dealer meeting in California that the small Hummer will arrive in dealerships in 2010 or '11. The vehicle will first be previewed as the Hummer HX concept car. A few select dealers were invited to see the concept car, which is a thinly veiled version of the production car.

Good news..but way to far off to help me now...The wrangler has not competition and is why the dealers are making a killn. GM will never make a good competitor but enough to worry Jeep. Maybe this means more goodies for the jeep wrangler... Of course if gas hits 4-6 a gallon probably not much vehicles with 15mpg will be selling unless the buyers are wealthy....

Let's see, not expected until '10 or '11...maybe by then Jeep will have purged itself of the german anchor they have been dragging around and will find out that the market demands just one thing..a Wrangler! Gone will be the Compass,Commander, Patriot and the oh my god ugly new Liberty. The new Wrangler pick-up will be two years old and will finally kill the Dakota...The '09 Wrangler has a Hemi and a 6 speed manual, and has a diesel optional powerplant, the Trailhawk will have been released and will be replacing the Grand Cherokee in '12...Maybe, to expand on this fantasy, Jeep will again be a truly independent company seperate from the very quickly aging Chrysler Motors. ...Ah, we can dream can't we?

Give me a diesel Wrangler and I don't care what anybody else makes.

When I read this I could not help but feel happy. Maybe this will give Chrysler the kick in the pants it needs to offer a hemi with a 6 speed in the Rubicon. My greatest concern is that Hummer will only offer an automatic transmission and Jeep will decide to do the same.

Hemi in the JK... it's possible but I don't think you will see it happen from the factory. Of course with speed freak Wolfgang Bernhard becoming the CEO of the company by the end of the year... who knows you might find a Viper powered Wrangler.

Jeep knows better than to take away the stick option in the JK. That is a good portion of their sales. As long as the Jeep brand exists you will find a two-door Wrangler version available with both an auto or a stick. You will see that they are even still offering a stick option in the new Liberty.

Ho-Hum...The same way H3 was supposed to compete with the Cherokee...

Put in the SB Chevy so Chrysler will put in the HEMI...

I think I have it figured out...Durango/Aspen representing Dodge/Chrysler, Cherokee/RESCUE representing Jeep, GTI---Representing Deucheland...

Mabye the Commander will be "restyled" to look more like the RESCUE, but still acomplish the same mission as the Commander, seeing as it was built on a similar platform.

So much for,"Like nothing else". Maybe their new slogan could be, "Wannabe Jeep"... or "You build it, we copy it (though not as well)"
