 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Reviewed |
Allpar.com has reviewed the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, both Rubicon models with automatic transmissions. They liked the general look and feel of the "real Jeeps," along with the new 3.8 liter engine, but dinged the sun visors and some other ergonomics. Overall, Allpar seemed to think that Jeep had once again (repeating the success of the CJ) gotten the on-road and off-road balance well in tune.
From the review:
The doors deserve special mention; Jeep doors are designed to be removed easily, and therefore have in the past not had power locks or windows. This vehicle did have power locks and windows, but retained the traditional simple hinge with a fabric "stop" to prevent the doors from opening all the way and hitting the fenders. The solution to the problem of removing doors with electric wires was simple enough…put a plug into the wiring so it can be detached. (Even though Jeep went with those poofy electric locks and windows, they kept the manually adjusted mirrors).

The quiet, refined 3.8 liter engine, lovely in minivans, provides a much more civil experience, because torque is not instant, and sudden acceleration is not jarring... without losing gas mileage (which is unchanged) or acceleration. You know, one(two) thing(s) I'd really HATE in a Wrangler is instant torque and jarring acceleration. We should be soooo happy they put a "lovely" civilized engine in it.  I think I'm going to puke. What soccer mom idiot wrote that article?  2 more things (1) The MPG is probably NOT the same, since the EPA just changed the way it's measured. So, the same MY07+ MPG figures indicate BETTER mileage. But who cares about gaining ~2MPG when the performance sucks? (2) There is no F-ing way the 3.8L V6 acceleration is the same --or even close-- as with the 4.0L I6. I've driven 4.0L's in YJs, TJs and XJs --all with a stick. I drove 2 new JK's with the 3.8L and a stick --it's slooowww, buzzy and deliberate and very UNenthusiastic...especially in the 4door version... You know... CIVILIZED!  Everything else with the JK is OK by me... especially the 4doors & pop tops... Now work on putting an ounce of enthusiasm in the lovely engine compartment, DCX!  |

Re: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Reviewed The hard plastic sun visors ARE a little odd but they should hold up better in the rain, etc. And the sunvisors serve no purpose (and never have on previous generations) at blocking out the sun coming from above the windshield.
I am not sure why people want open air fun and then complain because the light gets in. If you don't like it just drive at night...  |
