ORIGINAL SERPENTINE BELT!!!!! You really are crazy to still have that on after 100+ K on it.

As for the new wrangler, I am worried. My favorite part of my wrangler is the ragtop. To replace that with a composite top as is suggested seems somehow wrong.

My guess is that they are just testing the drivetrian, frame, etc. not full vehicle. Other car manufacturers have done this many times, for example when land rover was testing the freelander they camoed it by sticking a car body on top of the frame and made it look like a regular production vehicle. I am hoping that they make the new Wrangler much like the Gladiator and this is just a way to keep us guessing. I am very excited to see spy pics of the new Wrangler and I can't wait to see more.

Saying the TJ is not a real Jeep because it has air bags when others don't is like me saying your YJ is not a real Jeep because it has seat belts and a roll bar when my CJ2a doesn't. And as far as engines go, the go-devil and hurricane enigines in early CJs was superior to all of the AMC and later engines. And does your YJ have a vent in the front windshield like a CJ2a?

O.O.J. that was a very insightful and informative dissertation on the origins of G.E.M.A. and the new 'world engine' that they will produuce...

But you are still an IDIOT...

Need we remind you that the venerable 2.5 which is in the YJ may have been manufactured in Mexico?
(Some 2.5L's were made in Mexico, they are the ones that usually suffer from head-warping)

THe 2.2/2.4 engine family is not only all Chrysler, it was so technologically advanced, that it (was one of the major factors) actually prompted the takeover of Chrysler by Daimler, because Daimler wanted the rights to the engine technology for further engine development.

The upcoming G.E.M.A. engine is a further refinement of that technology---With Turbo and Direct-Injection variants planned, all manufactured will lessons learned from manufacture of the 2.2/2.4.

I have said this before and will repeat myself yet-again...DCX global partnerships will not dilute the Jeep line: If anything the partnerships will strengthen other manufacturers...

And if a DCX parnership with a company like Hyundai brings the 10yr/100,000 mile B2B warranty to the TK wrangler, then that is okay too.

As far as the spy-shots...

Don't anyone spazz out...The use of TJ sheet metal suggests that the TK will be more evolutionary than revolutionary, and everyone can rest easy...the S.F.A. is still in place on the test-mule.

I think we are seeing the divergence of the Jeep
line...One line for hardcore Jeepers, and one line for real-world drivers who still want good off-road capability.

I did some measuring and based on the width of the doors the vehicle in the pictures appears to have around a 108-110 inch wheelbase. That would be about how long the Unlimited's wheelbase would be if the rear axle was moved all the way back. So this means that the new 4-door TK may be very similar in overall size to the current Wrangler Unlimited.

"The new 2.4,2.0,and 1.8 4 cylinder motors are to be produced by a new consortium for Chrysler and others for use in 18 vehicle lines.
The new group; Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) will be responsible for the design and tooling of the first factory in South Korea..and to 5 other plants..one being Dundee,IL..
GEMA is a partnership between Daimler/Chrysler AG,Hyundai Motor Co. LTD and Mitsubishi Motors Co."

Gentlemen, I don't believe that group of motors are the same as the AMC DESIGNED and produced 2.5 (4) equipped in my YJ and early TJs...

Maybe I did overlook the correct intro onto the TJ..but forgive me...I sure don't deserve being called an A**hole for it..

I hate it too when people post their OPINION and have others who rip it apart because THEY don't know what THEY'RE talking about.....LOL

In fact I am old enogh to remember that CJ's came from dealers whithout any fluids and rust was already forming on the floor boards. You had to prep and paint them yourself so they would last a while.

Lets all look back to the good old days and hope they never repete themselves. I'm looking forward to what the new Wrangler will be.

Longer wheelbase (CJ7-8/YJ/TJ), Wider Track (Late model CJ7s/YJ/TJ), Sway bars and track bars that limit body roll as well as wheel travel and other things that Jeep was FORCED to do after the bogus 60 minutes BS that killed the last Real Jeep!!!

A few observations:

From the spy shots, it doesn’t appear the TK’s track will be
much wider than the existing TJ’s, instead maybe just the body
will be six-inches wider. Additionally, the four-door TK doesn’t
appear much longer than the TJ LWB; I presume it will be
Cherokee-sized. I wonder the size of the two-door version,
though? The new frame looks a little larger, and likely more stiff,
thus durability and ride quality will be enhanced. The much-
anticipated solid-front axle is evident. As long as they don’t ruin
the iconic exterior, this will be a hit, and will be a proper
replacement for my faithful TJ.

Regarding the proposed 2007 "TK", I am excited by the prospect of a 4-door, soft-top diesel Wrangler. However, I have no use for a hard-top (or removable-top) Jeep with doors. If I needed an enclosed vehicle, I'd buy a 4x4 pickup or Suburban.

I usually buy a new Jeep every 4 or 5 years, but if the new Wrangler is not available as a soft-top, I'll just re-power my 4-cylinder TJ (maybe with an Isuzu diesel) and keep it indefinately. Sorry.

From the spy photos it looks like the TK track will be somewhat wider than the TJ. The TK Mule has fairly "skinny" wheels and tires and they appear on the 3/4 view to slightly stick out from what appears to be a stock-width TJ tub and fender flares. Just an observation.

There are some girls around who would be impressed by a high pinion D44 and actually know what it looks like ;)
Those are the ones you want to be attracted to your jeep anyway :D

and BTW it is 'axle' not axil :p

OnlyOneJeep... As someone who has owned both a YJ and a TJ, to say the YJ is a Real Jeep and not include the TJ is a joke! The TJ is much truer to the original CJ that the YJ was. Yes it has coil springs, but they superior both on and off the road compared to the YJ leafs. I had an 89 YJ that would get stuck way more often than my 98 TJ because of the poor wheel travel limited by the leaf spring/track bar combo. I finally learned that the YJ track bar had to be removed when off roading (unless I wanted to put a suspension lift on it). Its funny how some of the complaints you have about the pending TK changes are similar to some of the YJ changes, longer, wider and so on!!

Look, that "thing" there isn't the prototype - at least NOT the body parts anyway. It's a 122" AAV (Arab American Vehicles) TJ Jeep body tub stuck on SOME "other" kind of frame - but not an LJ frame by the look of it. What they're testing is anyone's guess, but it sure ain't the new sheetmetal - that thing is pure TJ family body parts. The front axle (drivers' side diff) looks very much like a D30. The rumor mill has been spinning NO Dana axles in the future - AAM instead - so it doesn't look like they're testing a new driveline there either. Also, the only Salisbury type steer axle AAM makes is the 1080 - which is fullwidth - way wider that what's pictured there. What they ARE testing, I have no idea - but that test mule doesn't tell us anything.

Things change - tires once had tube in them, seatbelts were for race cars, you could drive without insurance if you wanted to & Jeeps were for fighting bad guys...they use Hummers for that now.

Catalytic Converter at 110K

Still has the original serpentine belt...though anyday now...
Still has the original clutch,cl.master & slave
Still has the original fr. rotors and rear shoes/drums
Bearings,calipers...on&on...

I wouldn't brag too much about that AMC 2.5L 4 cyl. I had one in my 87 Jeep Commanche and it threw a rod at 25,000 miles (1,000 mile out of warranty at that time). Luckily for me, Chrysler had just taken over for AMC and replaced the enigine for free. Also had that enigine in my 89 YJ that I sold to my cousin, and the engine went out on him at 60,000 miles. My brother, on the other hand, has an 81 CJ5 which had the GM built 2.5L in it and it was still going strong at the time my YJ's engine blew.

A jeep is a jeep because its distinct look and proud miltary tradition. All the guys who reported women were attracted to their wrangler should know that they were attracted to the styling. They didn't care what kind of axil or shock you have underneath. (they may care, however, the size of your tires, but that's a different story. No other vehicle has retained as much of the original styling over half a century as wrangler. While you can cut-up and jack up number of trucks and make them climb walls, they are not jeep because they don't look it. Let's face it, if the jeep styling is intruduced today, it would probabley considered ugly and odd. But ugly things, like hookers and politicians, when it gets old, it become respectable.( paraphrasing from the movie Chinatown) Jeep's design is antique and people like it for that. (Look at the success of PT cruiser)
Liberty, on the other hand, looks like a frog on LSD.

They will be marketing the Wrangler as the rugged off-road legend it always has been (while the Liberty will be marketed as a more refined but still off-road capable family SUV).

I dunno. It sure is long. And there is just just somthing about a four door Wrangler that just doesn't sit right with me. Anyone know what I mean?

I had a 2000 Wrangler and goodness do I miss it... I'd been saving for a new one, but then I got engaged and now there a wedding to pay for... but man I'm really going to have to redouble my efforts to save and get a real Wrangler before they're gone. The Unlimited is about as much as I'd like see changed, althought
D would be nice.

I dunno. I'm gonna try to withhold judgement, but my gut says bad juju...
