DaimlerChrysler investing heaviliy in the Chinese market, 2005 Wrangler information

From Channel NewsAsia International:

US-German auto group DaimlerChrysler is to pump more than one billion euros into China over the next few years and double capacity.

"We are going to invest more than one billion euros in the next couple of years in passenger cars, jeeps and commercial vehicles," said Roman Fischer, chairman and chief executive officer of DaimlerChrysler China Ltd.

Fischer said the company expects to sell more than 40,000 units of its jeeps and sport utility vehicles this year through its Beijing Jeep joint venture operations, compared to 20,000 last year.

Beijing Jeep sold just 9,000 units in 2002.

"In relation to introducing new models we are looking at each and every kind of jeep model produced in the US but there is no decision yet," he said.

Supposedly there will be a Rubicon LWB, but as a late 4th quarter build, meaning available to order Sept., showing up on lots in Nov. It is mentioned as such on a recent DC sales staff briefing.....

The 6-speed is the Getrag NSG370, which has been used in Mercedes applications. It will be the standard transmission in the 2005 Liberty Sport and Renegade too.

Ratios should be:
1st - 4.46
2nd - 2.61
3rd - 1.72
4th - 1.25
5th - 1
6th - .84
Rev - 4.06
