February, 2004 Jeep Sales Up

Wrangler and Liberty set sales records...

Driven by exceptionally strong retail sales, the Chrysler Group today reported U.S. sales of 172,647 units in February 2004, an increase of 1 percent compared with February 2003, when 170,614 vehicles were sold. February represents the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains at the Chrysler Group.

The Jeep(R) brand led the way with sales of 39,002 vehicles, an increase of 31 percent over February 2003, when 29,766 vehicles were sold. Jeep Liberty set a February sales record of 15,432 vehicles, up 30 percent from February 2003, beating last year's February record of 11,832 units. Jeep Wrangler also had its best February ever, posting sales of 6,960 units, an increase of 79 percent over February 2003. The previous February record for Jeep Wrangler was 6,703 units, set in 1997.

"Only in a Jeep do you get this combination of on-road refinement, off- road capability and marketplace dominance," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales.

Albeit that the grand has some great incentives on them right now. Interesting to see how well the new grand will sell. Couple people I have heard that have seen it have not been too impressed with no third row seat..

It's a nice enough vehicle, but I prefer the ruggedness of the Wrangler. I’m really interested in seeing what effect the Wrangler Unlimited has on Wrangler sales. Is it going to pull buyers from other wranglers? Is it going to pull buyers from Liberty? Is it going to pull buyers from other brands??? Should be fun to watch.

A cause for concern with the H2 as Wyatt had commented could be because the H2 is more of a status symbol than a regular performer. I think the H2 is wearing off a bit with consumers... I agree the new advertising campaigns such as the trail rated badge have really shown people that Jeeps like the liberty arent just grocery-getters, that they offer something completely different from many other suvs which is the capability that is supposed to accompany "sport utility".

They are working!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmmnn another thousand or soo and the liberty would have surpased the grand!! WOW that is impressive. I think the Wrangler unlimited will pull in current wrangler owners that want that extra storage space, but still want the rugged look and appeal.. Can only help jeep sales.
