Wrangler and Liberty set sales records...

Driven by exceptionally strong retail sales, the Chrysler Group today reported U.S. sales of 172,647 units in February 2004, an increase of 1 percent compared with February 2003, when 170,614 vehicles were sold. February represents the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains at the Chrysler Group.

The Jeep(R) brand led the way with sales of 39,002 vehicles, an increase of 31 percent over February 2003, when 29,766 vehicles were sold. Jeep Liberty set a February sales record of 15,432 vehicles, up 30 percent from February 2003, beating last year's February record of 11,832 units. Jeep Wrangler also had its best February ever, posting sales of 6,960 units, an increase of 79 percent over February 2003. The previous February record for Jeep Wrangler was 6,703 units, set in 1997.

"Only in a Jeep do you get this combination of on-road refinement, off- road capability and marketplace dominance," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales.

Hahahahaha! Watch them scramble for market share!

Looks like the Liberty is really starting to take off from those numbers!

Maybe people are seeing how well built they are compared to the competition, and how well they do off road..

Even the wrangler and grand did good.. Albeit that the grand has some great incentives on them right now.

Interesting to see how well the new grand will sell. Couple people I have heard that have seen it have not been too impressed with no third row seat..

I picked up a new Solar Yellow Rubicon in February, and I was still able to make a good deal on it, but it involved a lot of haggling!

Good to see the Jeep brand doing well after some doldrums. I'm impressed with the sales of the Liberty at this point. I've driven the Liberty. It's a nice enough vehicle, but I prefer the ruggedness of the Wrangler.

I’m really interested in seeing what effect the Wrangler Unlimited has on Wrangler sales. Is it going to pull buyers from other wranglers? Is it going to pull buyers from Liberty? Is it going to pull buyers from other brands???

Should be fun to watch.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of the country had some really bad weather in January / February... That helped make my decision

Not only are the H2s often in the shop, but I heard that repair/service costs are outrageous.

That's one reason why I went with Jeep rather than Land Rover because Land Rover is another company that kills their customers on service/repair.

Well from what I hear..
People who own a hummer 2 have complained about the quality problems.. They are in the shop alot.

I too agree that the trail rated commercials seem to be working... Anything to turn more people on to Jeep is a good thing.

One thing to realize, Jeep has always been there as a performer and has a consistant consumer base. They are relatively cheap vehicles that offer not only great performance but also a lifestyle that is unique to the brand.

A cause for concern with the H2 as Wyatt had commented could be because the H2 is more of a status symbol than a regular performer. I think the H2 is wearing off a bit with consumers...

I agree the new advertising campaigns such as the trail rated badge have really shown people that Jeeps like the liberty arent just grocery-getters, that they offer something completely different from many other suvs which is the capability that is supposed to accompany "sport utility".

IF YOU SHOW THEM THEY WILL COME.....

I think all the trail rated ad's are working just great... It's finally showing what a jeep is and how capable they really are... Now all of a sudden jeep is starting to stand out with the commercials.. I here people talk about the trail rated commercials (all good things) That's what get's people to take notice and want to buy something... DCA keep up the great commercials. They are working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmnn another thousand or soo and the liberty would have surpased the grand!! WOW that is impressive. I think the Wrangler unlimited will pull in current wrangler owners that want that extra storage space, but still want the rugged look and appeal.. Can only help jeep sales.

Wow! Maybe DC will actually start investing some of the capital back into Jeep. Good job Wrangler.

Basically DC has had two new vehicles (G. Cherokee and Liberty) in almost 20 years. It's time to come out with some new inovative vehicles and a pickup...please.

Look what was on the "Car Connection" today:

"Has Hummer Lost Its Groove?

General Motors may have reason to be concerned with sales of the $50,000 Hummer H2, now that sales of the massive SUV have dropped for the sixth month in a row when compared to the prior year's results. In February, Reuters reports, sales of the H2 fell by 21 percent, even though GM offered 48-month leases without a down payment or deposit. The vehicle, which made its debut in 2002 and is based loosely on GM's full-size truck architecture, currently runs at a 52-day supply through the GM pipeline, a little better than the average vehicle. Hummer spokesman Pete Ternes told the news agency that sales of the Hummer could slip below 30,000 vehicles a year and GM still would make money on the project. GM owns the Hummer brand and builds the H2 in Mishawaka, Ind. A new $35,000 Hummer H3 is due in 2005, based on the small-truck architecture that has spawned the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon."

Go Jeep!!!
