I very much like the look of the new Jeep Gladiator. If remember writing to the Chrysler
people over a year ago asking why they didn't build another Jeep type truck. I really liked the 79 model Jeep pick up truck. There answer was be-
cause of all the Dodge trucks was their reason for not building a Jeep truck for market.
I have a 93 Jeep Cherokee and I love it more than some of the newer Jeeps. I hope to buy a new Jeep some time this year. To tell you the truth, I've been hunting for a 79 Jeep Truck, between the price of $15,000 to $25,000. I would have to be rebuild from ground up.. I will not buy any one else's cars or trucks. I'am a Jeep person through and through. I can't wait for the new Gladiator to the public. I would like more info and pictures of this new Jeep pick up truck. I will look no further for any thing else now. OH Yeah, for Jeep!! Hope a full size Jeep Truck comes later on.

This, my friends, must be it. Why wouldn't DC make this? Consider from a different angle, we'd generally agree that the Wrangler is the essence of the brand, but it's a special kind of vehicle for a special kind of person. The person who's looking to buy an Explorer isn't going to give the Wrangler a second glance... but they'll buy the Command... er, I mean, '05 Cherokee. The parents whose teenie bopper kid is bugging them for an SUV aren't going to look at a Wrangler, either... but they'll consider the cuddly little Liberty (a big reason I don't see it getting phased out).

Now, let's think for a moment. How many of those damn F150s do we see crowding the streets, parking lots, all jacked-up & dirty from an off-road weekend?? Tons. And their owners aren't looking at any Jeeps currently on the market, either. But DC (a publicly traded company concerned with its bottom line) would love to get their greedy little mits into the pockets of the F150 types. And if the frequency with which I see supersized off-road trucks is any indication, that's a lot of cash to be had. Is the gladiator going to be some hulking mammoth sneering at the F250 or something? Nah, but it'll be a Jeep that looks like a Jeep, smells like a Jeep, rides like a Jeep and appeals to the pickup types... and others, too. Gotta tell ya, nobody hates pickups more that me, but build that Gladiator and I'll cough up the dough!! Makes me want to get an unlimited and slap the spare on the side. I see this one and the Rescue on lots in the very near future.

DC better not just be teasing us like they did with the Dakar concept (and then bringing out the Liberty). I'd definitely get a Gladiator if it does stay true to the show concept. And also, while working in D.C. this past week (Wed am.)I had seen a light khaki UNLIMITED FOUR DOOR with the convertible top. Was hoping someone (ScramblerKen, maybe) might have some input on it. Am hoping it wasn't just someones handywork and maybe DC was getting ready for a car show in the area.

Wise move on DC's part to purchase the Scout name as the heritage it conveys should translate into good sales. Perhaps they have learned their lesson having relinquished the iconic Cherokee to oblivion. The Gladiator could potentially fill the needed slot for a smaller pickup now that Toyota has converted the Tacoma to a midsize pu. I hope that DC keeps the six speed manual and diesel option as it translates nicely to the six speed/diesel combination so successful in the Dodge pu.

I like the GLADIATOR...The SUT styling would fit right into the Jeep lineup, without interfering with the rest of the DODGE lineup, which was the primary reason the highly successful COMMANCHE pickup was dropped.

As far as being an indicator of the future TK, I think it looks OK too. JEEP would be doing itself a favor by having a 2DR SWB, 2DR LWB, 4DR LWB and 2DR LWB pickup all built off of the same platform.

Many of the JEEP mags that I have read(i.e. 4WD, 4x4, 4WD and SUV, etc)have predicted that the TK will be more evolutionary that revolutionary, keeping things like removable soft-top, fold-down windshield, SFA, removable doors, etc. If anything, 4WHEEL DRIVE and SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE predicted that the LIBERTY would disappear after 2006...Mike's (my) Prediction is that the LIBERTY will be replaced by the 4DR LWB, and I am guessing it will be called LIBERATOR, tha name that has beetn tossed around before.

One more bit...Automobile Magazine also reported that Jeep has secured the rights to the SCOUT name...We have read that before on this site also, but it was the first time is saw it in magazine print.

Jeep made a good move by buying the SCOUT name for the upcoming sub-Wrangler Jeep...the so-called Compass bears a slight resemblance to the never-produced next-gen SCOUT, the SCOUT SSV (Super-Scout-five, or Supplemental-Scout-Vehicle, depending on what literature U read)

Either way, only time will tell if my totally uneducated guesses are right...

Gladiator Concept is just a "skunked" up '06/'07 Wrangler TK..It's a HINT of what the "new" Jeep is gonna be..if you squint...just right You can see the Wrangler in 'er...I can't wait to see!

On another note, has anyone heard when or where Camp Jeep is going to be in 2005? Back in VA or are they moving it to somewhere else this year. I would think they would be posting that info real soon on the Jeep web-site so everyone can make their summer vacation plans??

I agree with everthing but the cancellation of the Liberty. It's a good seller and a Wrangler based 4 door would not be directed at the same market.

I was also wondering when and where the 2005 camp jeep will be held. Im just hoping they move it back from the east coast to around colorado, its way to far for me to drive to VA from TX.......

As far as the styling, that's great. The Gladiator has a throw-back look; that of the old CJ.

This is indeed the truly functional utilitarian approach that made Jeep famous -- poseurs need not apply. The Gladiator could potentially fill the needed slot for a smaller pickup now that Toyota has converted the Tacoma to a midsize pu; this is especially appealing for those of us that need a vehicle that can manuever is tight quarters.
