Additional JT (Wrangler Pickup) Information

Car Connection has a brief rundown of Chrysler Concepts, and the JT was mentioned. Hopefully enough articles on this vehicle might get enough attention to get the execs at Chrysler to consider this guy for production.

Even Car and Driver is reviewing the JT. Their article has a few cool pics of the JT out in the dessert. Sadly, they too are not too optimistic about this one going production, but then gain, you never know.

Maybe if we are lucky, we will get to see the JT at Camp Jeep. Might be fun to chat with the engineers on this. Hopefully if they are serious, we can make a few suggestions on some improvements (like a Diesel option, combo tailgate/swing gate, tire off of the back, rollbar in the bed area, etc...)

UPDATE: 5/24/07: Autoblog has some great photos of the JT offroading. IGN also has a nice article about Chrysler Skunkwerks and the JT.

Its getting very expensive to drive my LJ and was $53 to fill up yesterday and at 15mpg it takes alot of disposable income to fill up....there goes my donuts and coffee, lol

I like the vehicle, but the projected numbers probably weren't there to justify building it. But, the JT seems to be a no-brainer. With a shared JK platform, the added (start-up) production costs should be at an absolute minimum, and they should be able to sell enough to make a tidy profit. There are already at least 3 companies offering TJ/JK mods to make psuedo-Scramblers (GR8 Tops, Summit, and AEV-conversions). So, what are you waiting for JEEP Execs? Obviously, the market is out there! Haven't we (the Jeep-faithful) begged enough? P.S. --To JEEP Execs-- If you want to save a few million more, cancel any "marketing research" on the JT. We WILL buy them.

Daimler ran off most of the old Jeep guys and neutered most of future product development at Jeep so I can't see how the chances would be anything but better now.

It's a dumb reason, but that's why. Everytime a jeep pickup is not built, the reason I hear is that they dont want to lose sales on dodge pickups.

The really dumb part is that a Jeep truck would barely make an impact on Dodge sales, if at all. People who would be or are interested in a JK-based truck are probably NOT going to be interested in a Dakota in the first place. IMHO building the JT should be a no-brainer. With the possible exception of the half-cab and bulkhead, it uses existing production parts. The chassis is a standard JK Unlimited chassis, and the tub is one they've already developed for military use by Egypt and Columbia.

Between the Caliber/Compass and the Nitro/Liberty, if they were really worried about it they would not have gone that route. And no, a Jeep pickup would not do a thing to Dodge. It is a totally different concept. People that need to haul stuff are not going to buy the JT, they will still go elsewhere. It is the people that want to take some extra gear into the woods that will buy the JT. A small, reliable pickup is just what the offroad market needs.
