WranglerA New Species From Jeep?
Posted by Anonymous on 2006/4/18 13:06:00 (1959) reads

As part of the 4-Door Wrangler Unlimited's press debut last week, Jeep released some cool overhead photos of the Wrangler carrying all sorts of stuff.

One enterprising person took the photos and "mounted them" for display. You'll see what I mean once you check out the photos:

Actually...these were being handed out, exactly as they appear on Flikr, as marketing pamphlets at the auto show. I've got four, one of each configuration. The bug box and everyhing is exactly as Flikr. There's info on the new 4-door inside.

So...the "enterprising person" really just enterprised his way to a scanner!

Thanks for the link though, I've got one as my background right now!

How about one of those big bugs evolving into a bug that eats diesel (efficiently of course).

I'd bet you that "enterprising person" is being paid to be enterprising. Meaning, it most likely is a Jeep marketing person because NONE of those pictures are available for download on the jeep.com website nor on the chrysler group Media website. So, someone's marketing these pictures to you*, mike. They're not made by some random enterprising jeep fan.

Nice photos Jeep. I would suggest next time to just make the damn photos available to the general public via your confusing and ugly jeep.com website instead of being cute by using Flickr to do this.

You're trying WAY too hard to give us wallpaper images. LOL!

Actually, the pictures are available on the Jeep website in the photo gallery of the '07 Wrangler Unlimited.

I think the point is that someone added the "bug box" with the labels.

Actually, the photos are not available for download. That's the point. Yeah there's 2 pictures but you can't get them because they're in Flash and there's no download link. Also, there are only 2 overhead photos and they're not in the same cargo configurations as what's in the flickr account.

There's the one with the blue body color and bags on top.

and the red body color with red kayak

Show me where the green surfboard image is if you still think was created by some jeep fan. Please.

What's even funnier is that this was posted to this site as "Anonymous" LOL!!!!!!

If you re-read the article, you'll notice that I wrote that Jeep released the photos. The "enterprising individual" that I mentioned was whomever took the photos and modified them to look like they were mounted inside "bug boxes" (or whatever they're called) with the descriptive labels.

I was fully aware that the photos were from Chrysler Group.

Hope that clears it up.

Mike, I understand that Jeep was the source of the original photos. What I'm saying is that this person who took those and created the shadowboxes for the pictures is not a regular joe but someone who is, in my opinion, a part of Jeep's marketing group.

Do I think the final bug box images are cool? Yes.

Do I resent the fact that this is really just a lame underhanded attempt to propogate their marketing to us instead of being up-front by saying that they have some cool images for us to download? Yes.

How can I tell that these are official images from an arm of Jeep marketing? Because the "unknown person" who created them is using images that are not publicly available. You go to jeep.com for me and find every version of the bug photos that you can download. You can't. It is not possible for you or I to get every individual instance of the overhead pics with the different colors and roof rack cargo.

My point is this. I want Jeep marketing to be less cornball with their methods (The Mudds, these pics) and just help us get the rigs in our garage. This series of pictures is a lame PR stunt and I don't like it. It's like these people think we're a bunch of teenagers and we're impressed with this.

WHATEVER.

Why do you care who made the pictures? It is really not that big of a deal.

I care because I find this kind of underhanded marketing to be crappy at best. Why not just put them on the website and get it over with? For a brand that's historically made no-nonsense vehicles, they sure have an ad company doesn't understand their customers.Oh and here's your proof that I was right about this.
