I saw this tidbit on the rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys newsgroup:

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, the only other company in the world licensed  to use the name Jeep, will discontinue the Jeep product line this year.   This announcement was made June 3.    If you have been to Japan, you may be familiar with the Mitsubishi Jeep, a  beautiful design, pure Jeep.  It mostly sells to the Japanese Military, but  there are some sold to the civilian population.  --   name hidden
