here is my comment- It was nice to see the Willys Overland ad. My friend's dad had a green one. I have an operating HO scale Overland (only it's red) for my model railroad. I have never seen a picture of the real thing. Can you tell me about any railroads that used them as track inspection cars or any other duty. I know of many military Jeeps that were converted to other service such as fire trucks. This was popular after WWII. The principality of Monte Carlo was one. As a model Jeep collector (Matchbox, Ertl, etc.) I can tell you that the Overland and the Jeepster are not ever done.

I think anyone that has an off road vehicle is cool. Jeep certainly has a history and fair amount of nostalgia. Recently I went out wheelin with four Jeep owners. I had to pull one of them up a steep climb and out of a creek. One of the other Jeep owners took pictures of me pulling the Jeep with my Toyota. I asked him for a copy of the photos. He said he couldn't do that. When I asked why he said " You wouldn't understand, it's a Jeep thing".

- All four wheelers rule!!!

I feel that you guys need to get into the reality world with the jeeps. I don't think you can even begin to compare those ratty ass jeep-wanna-be rip offs to the real thing. Once you go jeep you shouldn't go back to the imatation. Sure those new wanna-be's look alright but once they're really put to the test its like comparing a pinto to a rolls-royce. And anyways who has the stupidity to say anything about our beloved jeeps that not only saved us with the World Wars but also helped our economy greatly when they pulled us out of the great depression. Get your facts straight before you decide to rag on an american idol and legend.

all, today I went to Tarbox Jeep and Fireside
Nissan, took a look at the Liberty and the SC
Xterra (Just got then in this week), Sorry folks,
in terms of looks, and feel, everything, Xterra
BLOWS THE LIBERTY OUT OF THE WATER!!!
Even blows my Cherokee out of the water!!!! I
can't wait till my lease is up now!!!!

Who said anything about taking the Chevy off
road... and I once loved Jeep, and I still love
my CJ7, but in all fairness, the 4Runner,
Xterra, Frontier Crew Cab, Tacoma, Galanda
Wagon,Land Rover (GOD I HATE LAND
ROVER OWNERS!) Land Cruiser, these
vehicles are hardly minivans. It's ok to like
Jeep even with the new leadership.....I guess,
but please don't sniff glue and become a
mindless marketing zombie of DC.

What is your point Xterra. Can you at least be consistant. First it's Libertys suck and now get a Liberty if you are a girl because they won't be happy with a Cherokee. As if you aren't making a big enough ass of yourself posting under Xterra. To the Jeep faithful, both the Liberty and Xterra mock what a truck or SUV is supposed to be. Yet you support one but not the other and now pull gender issues. Since you are the only who posted on the video game post, one can assume you are 15 yr old acne faced dork waiting to get off the v-van, and hence expected to be undereducated. You are not gaining any ground with each post. I'm with Griff. Welcome any and all new solid-axle Jeeper, experienced or not. The point is not whether you are a man or a woman, a veteran or beginner, simply that you understand the point and get involved.
On a side note, I experience a tragidy: my 97 Grand Cherokee was reared by a Expedition at about 45 and is being totaled. Hopefully I can find a niced price 2001 Grand or a nice used 98.

I almost for got to tell you that I have a roof mounted tire carrier on my XJ.
I purchased mine right from the dealer through the Mopar accessories book.
That was about three years ago so I don't know if they are still available, but
that mite be a good place to start.

This really has nothing to do with the above story, but it is Jeep related. Yesterday I brought home my first Jeep vehicle. I had posted here a couple
of weeks ago because I was having a hard time deciding between a Cherokee and a Liberty. With the help of XJ Ken and Mr. Jeep I decided on the Cherokee.
I purchased a 2001 Cherokee Sport with the Up Country package, dark tinted
windows, cruise, rear window defroster, automatic ( I wanted a stick, but none
were available ) air, CD player, power everything out the door just under $20,000. I saved all most $6,500 off sticker. None of the three dealers in my
area would sell me a Liberty for less than sticker, and this girl doesn't pay
sticker. I am going to build it like the one I saw at the mall, Today I am going
to my local instant sign place and have them make me a " Silly Boys ! Jeeps
are for girls " sticker for the back window. My first real modification will be some
all terrain tires on some black spoke wheels. That should look good with the
yellow paint, don't you think ? Does any one know where to get one of those
roof mounted tire racks ?

More headroom, better visibility, and more cargo space.....plus there's mom and the kids!!! Is that an ad for the Willys-Overland Jeep Station Wagon....or the new Liberty???

I found a site on the net the other day that has a variation of the "It's a Jeep
Thing " sticker for sale. It reads "It's a Jeep Thing...Daimler doesn't understand !". That sounds like the perfect sticker for those of us who do not
agree with the direction Daimler is going with Jeep. That site is www.ILOVEJEEPS.

I thought this article was about DC's website posting old photos & ads. We always seem to get off on tangents. I for one would love to see more of these old photos and ads of classic Willys and Jeeps of the past. I wish they could be blown up more so I could print them like the original. To "Just a Girl": Your bumper sticker idea is very clever. "Silly Boys! Jeeps are for Girls!" You might consider selling those. We need more clever stickers like that to put on the back of Jeeps. "It's a Jeep Thing, You Wouldn't Understand" is starting to get old. If someone is in the business of bumper stickers. Do it! Happy Jeepin!

How can you put an Xterra in a sentence with a G-wagon, Land Cruiser, or Rover.... not even close (i'm talking ability not price). And yes the Xterra is a minivan. As for Frontier guy which is probably "Xterra", Frontiers are perhaps the only Jap vehicle to be notoriously known for poor build quality. If you don't want a vehicle that's good offroad, at least choose one that is built well. Perhaps I'm misinformed but a supercharger is supposed to make a vehicle fast, right? 9.5 s to 60 is not fast (even worse in a heavier Xterra). Also, I don't think it will help as much offroad as say..... a good suspension. As for any trust in MT, lets look at the previous SUV of the Year...RX300 (tall Camry), Xterra (won because it's cheap...that's it), MDX (only an X5 is worse offroad), and soon to be announced Liberty (Jeep image with Neon charm). While it make sense to the majority of SUV buyers, to those who truly use their SUV, it's an insult.

here is my comment--How can you even mention the new Chevy Trailblazer on this board??? NO offroader would even think of buying that vehicle! The front airdam comes down so low you would probably scrape it getting out of your driveway. Let's face it, whether you like the Liberty or not, Jeep is the only US manufacturer that still cares about off-road ability in an SUV. Everyone else is building minivans that look like trucks (2002 Ford Exploder). Do you think Chevy even KNOWS what the approach and departure angles are on the Trailblazer? So far all the magazine articles on the Liberty are favorable as far as it's off-road ability goes. Motor Trend gave it an A+, and if I remember correctly, it's ramp travel index was the best at either 475 0r 525. That's a lot better than my first Jeep, a '91 Wrangler YJ.

Liberty and are purchasing A/T tires. Good for you.

"Jeep Liberty" is a curse word in vocabulary. But on a positive note Willy's Wagons are about the coolest Jeep drive the face of the earth. I am looking to buy one. The only two I've seen lately are two I saw at the Puallup 4x4 Swap meet in Washington this year. If anyone knows about one for sale give me a holler at griff01xj@cs.com By the way TNN's Trucks show had a totally body off frame restoration of a Willy's 4x4 wagon with a 350 and a lift running 35's. Now thats awesome, how can you not want one of these things. As for the Liberty, we shant talk of such rubbage in the face of a piece of Jeep Legacy. Unlike the Liberty who's legacy will hopefully be the 2nd and last Jeep ever produced with IFS and Rav4 like styling. Didn't they learn with that Wagoneer back in the 60's? IFS is for anything but Jeeps.
