Jeeps in Sarhara
In an article about alternative advertising methods for major car manufacturers on metronews.ca, some tidbits about the Jeep efforts were highlighted:
...the Chicago Auto Show, where Chrysler has set up what it says is the world's largest indoor test track. Consumers will be able to test drive Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep vehicles over a half-mile course at the show.
"What we're trying to do is to find ways to really connect to our customers in an experiential and interactive way," said Joe Eberhardt, executive vice president of Chrysler's global sales and marketing.
The Chrysler side of DaimlerChrysler AG had its first auto show test track in New York last year, which resulted in 36,000 test drives, with 8 percent of the drivers going on to buy a Chrysler product. Normally, only 0.5 to 1 percent of auto show attendees buy a vehicle, Eberhardt said.
Chrysler's Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee will appear prominently in the action movie "Sahara," starring Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey, opening in March. But Eberhardt added, "We're not in the business of writing movie scripts."
