In scanning the web, I came across this little news article:
Pentagon Speeds Up Effort to Replace Humvee.

Maybe Jeep can come out with something for the military and take back their crown.

Re: Pentagon Speeds Up Effort to Replace Humvee
But was the Humvee ever designed or intended to protect its occupants from this type of weapon? Is it realistic that a lighter, high mobility vehicle, with these new requirements will still be highly mobile? For that matter, does other vehicles, that have better protection even withstand these weapons - say a LAV or a Bradley. But these are in a different class of vehicle anyway. If we are talking about building up a new vehicle to replace the Humvee that will protect its occupants against these weapons, aren't talking about building a vehicle that is no longer in the same class as a vehicle like a Humvee. I don't know, just thinking out loud. Regardless, YES, it would be sweet if Jeep entered to win a contract for a new design that did these things and won it!
