Grand Cherokee240,000+ Grand Cherokees Recalled

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced 2 separate recalls for the Jeep Grand Cherokee that total over 240,000 vehicles.

The first recall involves over 130,000 2000 and 2002 Grand Cherokees for a defective cooling system fan.

The second recall involves 2003-2004 Grand Cherokees with heated seats - it appears that the heating element can overheat and start a fire. This recall involves over 110,000 vehicles.

DaimlerChrysler expects to have replacement kits available to dealers in July for both these issues.

Check out the facts from the NHTSA web site. You'll have to search for recent recalls - the Grand Cherokee recalls are dated 6/6/06 (gasp!).

Various news organizations are covering the seat heater recall as well.

We had an 99 WJ for a few years and those heated seats got really warm. Felt good on my back, but didn't set me on fire.
