Wrangler2007 Wrangler and Unlimited Photos

I found this link on the Rubicon Owners Forum. Apparently it is a 'look see' at the 07 Wrangler and 07 Unlimited for the folks that build them. Some interesting shots for sure:

(note from Mike: there's a total of 61 photos here, including lots of the underside and lots of detailed photos. This site is a must-see for Wrangler die-hards!)

Re: 2007 Wrangler and Unlimited Photos
I wonder, is the 3.8L v6 engine brand new? or is it used in any other vehicle?
I wonder how well it will fair with the old but trusty 4.0L inline?
How would it compare in terms of economy?

And a seriusly would love the 5.8 Hemi as an option....
Enough space?

No it's been used in minivans and cars. The 3.8L has been changed slightly over the year but was first used back in the late 80's early 90's.

Too bad about the 4.0L since it was a great engine.

5.7L Hemi or 6.1L Hemi would be cool.

I have a 2004 Unlimited which I dearly love. In all the engine discussion about the the 4dr. nothing has been said about possible use of the Cummins diesel. Is there a reason or is DC just determined to use the Mercedes engine? I want a Rubicon, manual transmission and a diesel (if possible).

I would love a diesel, and more so a Cummins like the Rescue prototype.

They say the diesel they are using will be available in select international markets. I sure hope Canada is included on that list.

If they did use the diesel it will be the VM 2.8L CRD (Italian). The Rescue was based one a 2500 Ram pickup chassis and was a lot larger. The Cummins motor would be too heavy/big for use in the JK.

Looks like a Honda Element--but at least it's got a decent 4WD system...

Its a shame that jeep finally has some really great vehicles hitting the market and gas prices are $3+ maybe $4+ if any hurricanes or more instability in the oil supply..... I sure would like to trade my rubi unlimited for one of these new models but 16mpg at $3+ and probably $30K for the rubi version....its outta my range. Soon only the rich or those with lots disposable income will driving the fun and cool low mpg vehicles or those that are stuck in em....

Has anyone seen or heard anything about possible soft tops? Everything I've seen is the sunrider hard top.

Re: 2007 Wrangler and Unlimited Photos
Well the Sunrider is the name of the soft-top, and the hard top is called "freedom-top" for some reason or another... One of the interior pictures of the 2Dr in the link above shows the bracketry folded down in the back with the soft top all wrapped up... all under the hard top, of course, which is a feature I'm glad they kept. I'm glad to also see that they are offering more than one hard-top color, as seen on the Sahara above.

The only picture of the soft top I've seen is a spy photo that was released a few months ago... the 4dr was all in camo except for the top, which was a soft top. They were close-ups in a parking lot, I believe.

I find it amazing that adding 20" and 2 doors only adds 211 pounds to the Wrangler for the Unlimited Rubicon with manual tranny.

I guess I am old school on this, but I would have liked to see the JK with the the windshield down to see how the single hinge works.

As for seeing a hemi, I too would like to see one in the JK (even after I bought a brand new 06 ruby), but as tight as the 3.8 looks in that engine compartment, you might have to use a really big shoe horn to get it in there.

I just can't decide if I like the Unlimited. With the big tires and wheels and boxy back end, it looka like the offspring of a H1Alpha and a Scion Minibox.

The room would be nice, and so would a Hemi (maybe!). I just can't help thinking the JK will be more fun to drive. I'll definitely have a chance to drive the Unlimited before I get the JK, though.

It will probably come down to price and availability. I wonder how delayed the Rubicon's are going to be.

Also, is this picture the red rock Crystal color? Is the bug picture the navy or the graystone?

Yes that is the Red Rock Crystal color. I like it.

Hey, you mentioned the boxy rear end. Have you noticed how that changes when the top is removed?

I am supprised at all the "new Wrangler looks like a..." comments in the various forums. I can't see that it is derivative of anything but CJs, YJs, TJs etc. Saying that a Jeep looks like a Hummer is like saying "The Beatles kind of sound like Oasis". Regardless of which you prefer, the latter is by definition a derivitive of the former; ergo, Hummers look like Jeeps, and Oasis sounds like the Beatles.

I agree. Especially with regards to the H3. It looks like a caricature of a Jeep. Take a look at the rear fender flares and grille for example.

Re: 2007 Wrangler and Unlimited Photos
Thank you bmcollier. That is about the best analogy I have heard. Everyone (including the press) seems to forget that Jeeps were around for quite a while before anyone ever heard of Hummer, and that all of those Jeeps have had looked pretty similar. I have a poster on my wall that shows the evolution of the Wrangler all the way from WWII to the present. The JK would fit in perfectly right after the TJ.

Those 18" rims don't look half bad on the 4-door. The fit the long wheelbase well.

Re: 2007 Wrangler and Unlimited Photos
I'm a bit confused on the 4 door's release. All the video links say fall of '06, but the Jeep website says summer.

Which one is right (hoping it's summer)?

Also, how much more do any of you think they will be compared to the current '06 models? I'm leaning toward a Sahara myself, so I'm hoping they are lower priced than the Rubis.

You and me both.

I'm anxious to see what the price differences are between the Saharas and Rubicons, both 2 and 4 door models (all 4WD).

I would also like to see pics/prices of the X models of both 2/4 door to compare to the Rubicon and Sahara.

Wished the Jeep website had a 4 door 360 degree gallery like the 2 door Wrangler. I bet a 4 door white Sahara would look pretty smooth.

Sahara will be cheaper than the Rubicon (because Rubicon is the only one available with electronic lockers and disconnecting sway bar).

The Wrangler Unlimited is supposed to be released in late Summer. The Wrangler will follow shortly in the early Fall.
