Jeep Sales Up 11% Over Feb 05

Jeep(R) brand sales of 39,618 units were 11 percent better than February 2005 sales of 35,756 units. Sales of the Jeep brand were helped by the enthusiastic reception of the Jeep Commander, which posted sales of 7,091 units. February results for the Jeep Commander were 68 percent higher than January 2006 results of 4,209 units and set a new sales record for the vehicle and confirming consumers' desire for a seven-passenger Jeep vehicle.

Jeep Wrangler continued to maintain its position as a leader in the small SUV segment by posting sales of 5,673 units, an increase of 9 percent over February 2005 sales of 5,198 units.

"As we move into the spring selling season, our recent product introductions like the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Commander continue to attract new customers," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales. "We eagerly anticipate the arrival of 10 all-new products this year and are well-positioned to offer a full range of new, distinctive vehicles as the economy looks to gain momentum going forward."

I think we all (including DCX) knew that would happen though and really doesn't matter since both are built on the same line and in the end the Commander brings in slightly higher revenue per model.

That is the brilliance of DCX moving to flexible manufacturing plants. By offering a broad selection of vehicles to the consumer, DCX can satisfy several, small niche markets from a single production facility. You might not see a DCX nameplate ranked as a best-seller, but if you look by platform, you will realize that they will dominate many segments in the industry over the next 5-10 years.

I was just pointing out the most likely reason why the numbers for the WK were down. Lets hope the flexible manufacturing plants can give us even more cool Jeep vehicles. FYI, I saw a post (from a dealer) on the jeepcommander.com web site that says an Overland trim edition will be available for the Commander this fall. Let's hope it adds some off-road goodies and isn't just visual changes. The redesigned Wrangler and all new 4-door Wrangler will definitely increase Jeep's market share. The WK is getting a slight refresh in the mid-2007 model year. I would expect that you will see just some minor changes to the fascia as well as the rumored Bluetec engine option. The Liberty is getting redesigned and most likely will fall into the luxury SUV lineup like the WK and XK. Let's hope the designers at DCX do a good job as the Liberty is just getting over the stigma that it received when it first came out (people are finally realizing it is NOT just another cute ute). If it receives goodies like the ELSDs available in its big brothers, nobody will be doubting its off-road abilities. And let's hope they stick closer to the Renegade trim-levels styling. I think the Compass is going to have some growing pains mainly due to it's unsightly front end. I wouldn't be surprised to see this tweaked within two years. It does have 8.5" of ground clearance so it will easily outrun others in it's class. It is just the exterior design that will hurt it.

I also think that the compass will be a good seller after theey fix the front bumper.
