WAR WRANGLER??
I wonder whether the new wrangler unlimited could become the new hummers in the military? With the roof down, and short doors it kind of looks like one. It propably has even better offroad ability, and will be capable of mounting weapons on top. What do you guys reckon?

Re: WAR WRANGLER??
I'm in Iraq right now employing the up-armored varient of the HMMWV. When I saw the new 4-door Jeep I immediately began to consider the military applications (as well as the sweet aftermarket possablities). It looks like it could be great for a military on a tight budget. The Iraqi Police use some LWB wranglers produced by DC Egypt. They've been modified to mount weapon systems. We mount weapons on John Deere Gators and Chevy Pick-ups, so anything is possible as far as weapon mounting goes. The Jeep is a fine vehicle. I love mine (1983 Scrambler) and I hope to get one of the 4-doors if they make it with a diesel, but it is a long way from being more capable than a military model hummer for military purposes in the off-road.

Comparing a civilian vehicle to a military vehicle is like comparing apples to oranges. I would think that if the Unlimited were made to military specs, it would be a quite capable vehicle in its own right.

I would really like to see Jeep back in the military.

Cool, Although I dont know the specific requirement of a military hummer. According to the test drives I have read. Theyre not that great offroad. They are quiet large for tight trails, yet only seat 4, and are quiet undepowered. I remeber seeing them compete in the Paris-dakar race one year, and they were ccomming 62 -64th, before they were completly disqulified from the race altogether.

Anyway check out this video of a Xj and Yj vs a hummer.
