Re: Wrangler Unlimited? I bought my 2004 Unlimited last October, and I must say that I have NEVER loved a car like I love this one. I had a Grand Cherokee before, but I finally wore it out. Now I have my dream car. Not only is it the bright red Jeep Wrangler that I have always wanted, but I have the extra space for cargo. I can carry anything that a small truck can, I have a smoother ride on the road (with the longer wheel-base) and I can still drive up the side of a mountain if I want to.
I also want to thank the guy that posted the link for conversion to a hemi. Once this is paid off, I have a plan. |

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? The only thing I can say bad about mine is when you do have stuff in the back, it wallows some. Would have preferred a better suspension on the back with the added length. Other than that, I love it. Gas mileage was poor when at first, but has improved. And am now working on some aftermarket items I hope Chrysler will like. <eg> hmmm.... now about having a Wrangler with the Hemi as a stablemate for her......

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? Hey Everyone out there with UN-TJ's. Congrats on your purchase. As a CJ-6 owner, it is nice to see so many of my "Grandkids" out there. Jeeps has been known to stretch the Universal Jeep on many different platforms. My CJ-6 was the first stretched universal. They are 20" longer than a stock CJ-5 and were used primarily in the military carrying the M-170 name. I have restored my 1974 to original with the exception of adding a '99 4.0 to it for improved driveability. the CJ-8 or "Scrambler" was next to be streched followed by the YJ Wrangler, which was built overseas. I am glad Chrysler stayed with history and built the Unlimited.
OK- technically, they are identical the the TJ of the same build. they ride and handle better due to the obviously longer wheelbase. They only issues I have seen to date involve the 6-speed trans. An accidental move to reverse while in a forward motion will clash gears and cause the reverse gear and related parts to go south. As you know, the 6-speed has very stiff detents and it is easy to "slip up" and hit the wrong shift gate. There is a TSB which involves replacing reverse gear and related blocker, detent and rail if yours becomes damaged. teh symptom you will have is it will not go into reverse intermittently. If you are out of warranty (hope not) I would contact Chrysler and let them know you are aware there is a technical service bulletin which addresses the issue. They will most likely offer a goodwill claim to fix it for you. Aside from that, keep the gas cap tight and enjoy!! The Jeeper |

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? Try ordering yours through the exchange new car sales program. I just ordered my Unlimited Rubicon for $25,600 while escorting a convoy through Taji. You still have to cover the sales tax though (if you can, get it delivered in a state with no sales taxes).
Aside from the post about the reverse gear problems is there anything I should be ready for when I take delivery? |

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? Both my girlfriend and myself have purchased 2005 Unlimiteds and really like our Jeeps a lot. My question is about the soft top. Her soft top is the first run with the solid side windows, while mine is the later version with the diagonal reliefs in the side windows. Her top fits great with no slack at all. Mine however has a bit of slack in the side windows and is especially noticeable when you are in pretty hot temps. This past summer I drove it through N.Mexico and Arizona and at highway speeds the windows flap like a flag. Anyone else encountered this? The couple of dealers I have taken it to act like it fits perfect, which I expected. The rear window was replaced by the first dealer I took it to because it was so slack it was hitting the rear spare when you drove at highway speeds. I tried trading windows with her top, but her windows won't even fit in my top. Strange. Regardless I still like my Jeep a lot. Anyone else experienced this?
I am assumming that the 2007 Wrangler line-up will not include an Unlimited but will be replaced by the 4-door version? |

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? Doing great with my Unlimited since I bought it brand new last September. Hey does anyone out there know if they've discontinued production of the original wrangler unlimiteds (04-06) and how many vehicles they made?
It seems that these vehicles might be rare someday. I believe even the Scrambler had a longer production run than two years. Joe 06 Wrangler Unlimited |

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? Jason, Can you fit the 37's with a 4 inch lift? how much did your 5.5 inch lift cost? How has your mpg been effected? Have you been forced to change axel gearing, if so how much did that cost? What does it ride like on the freeway, passing etc? I plan to get a 4 door unlimited next year. I want to add 35 inch tires. Not sure how much it will cost me to do it? Thnaks Jay

Re: Wrangler Unlimited? I bought my 2006 Rubicon Unlimited (first Jeep ever after lusting after Wranglers for a while) around the beginning of the year and what else can I say other than I love it and have had no problems with it yet. I now frequently take the backroads to work and seeking seasonally maintained roads has become a hobby. Planning on going to the Snoshoe Mountain Jamboree this week.
